Contacts Versus LASIK

Have you considered LASIK surgery to correct your vision only to find out you are not a good candidate for the procedure? Does the whole idea of elective surgery on your eyes give you pause? Let's look at the viable contact lens alternative.

Why consider contacts when one of the reasons for having LASIK performed is to become free of lenses or eyeglasses? Because, in some cases, even successful LASIK recipients later need to be prescribed eyewear for the onset of presbyopia, the loss of near-focusing ability often associated with aging. Also, the time it takes for the corrected vision achieved by the laser procedure to stabilize can be somewhere between three and six months; and that vision is slightly less than perfect 90 % of the time for those with extreme prescriptions, falling within a range of 20/20 to 20/40. In these instances, a further procedure-known as enhancement-is called for. Unfortunately, there are some patients that cannot have this additional treatment if their cornea is too thin or other factors evolve resulting from the initial surgery. Contacts tend to give crisper vision and more immediate satisfaction at less risk.

Chelsea

Just as LASIK has advanced in the past decade, so have contacts. Some optometrists express amazement at how the field has progressed. New types of lenses, manufactured with materials that have improved comfort and convenience are prevalent. The introduction of silicone hydrogels, which allow more oxygen to permeate to the cornea, has extended contact wear time in some instances up to thirty days. For those who are able to tolerate overnight wear, these contacts approximate the same non-hassle 'freedom' that LASIK would give. It should be noted that proper care and commitment to a prescribed replacement regimen is still vital to avoid eye problems associated with lens use. As a contrast to extended or continual wear, daily disposables have seen a surge in favor among patients who like the handiness of just using their lenses once and discarding them at the end of the day.

LASIK can correct myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), and astigmatism (fuzzy vision due to an asymmetrical cornea). There is also a procedure for the aforementioned presbyopia. It involves the principle of monovision, where one eye (usually the dominant one) is corrected for distance vision and the other for near vision. Patients' adaptability plays a large part in the success of monovision and many must be prepared for a loss in depth perception. Contacts are available to treat presbyopia in addition to all the above-listed conditions. For presbyopia there are lenses manufactured using a bifocal or a multi-focal design or one can also use regular lenses specifically fitted in monovision. As with LASIK recipients, monovision contact-wearers have the same concerns regarding adaptability and depth perception. Multi-focals provide a full depth of field, with a gradual transition between near and far powers in the same lens.

Other considerations in choosing contact lenses include not having to worry about aggravated dry-eyes, which can occur with LASIK, necessitating ongoing medication to facilitate tear production. With the laser procedure there is also the possibility that employment may be affected (some jobs prohibit employees who have undergone refractive surgery). Though uncommon, reports of postoperative symptoms that do not go away (double vision, heightened sensitivity to light, and vision loss due to dramatic corneal reshaping) exist. Night driving vision performance has been diminished in a number of LASIK patients--especially those with myopia--due to glare, 'starbursts' and halos seen around lights.

So, the benefits of contact lens wear as an alternative to LASIK are well worth weighing. Of course any final decision can only be determined, as always, after a thorough discussion with your eye care professional.

Kevin Keegan - Liverpool FC Legend

Kevin Keegan began his playing career at Scunthorpe United in 1968 and signed for Liverpool in 1971 for an amazing £35,000, under the management of Bill Shankly, Keegan went on to become one of Liverpool's greatest ever players.

On August 14th 1971, Kevin Keegan made his Liverpool debut at Anfield against Nottingham Forest and after only twelve minutes he scored his first Liverpool goal. Keegan was originally signed for his midfield qualities, but his abilities as a forward were soon recognised and he went onto forge a great partnership with striker John Toshack.

Chelsea FC

Keegan won his first honours with Liverpool in 1973, when they won the First Division title, as well as wining the UEFA Cup, scoring two goals in the first leg of the final against German side Borussia Moenchengladbach.

The following season Liverpool lost the league title to Leeds United, but Keegan had a successful season, playing in all 42 League games and another 19 in cup competitions. He was the Liverpools' top scorer in the League with 13 goals and, Keegan scored two goals as Liverpool beat Newcastle United 3-0 to win the FA Cup final, and another four goals in the qualifying games leading up to the final.

Keegan had by now completely endeared himself to the Liverpool fans, with his commitment and work rate, Bill Shankly once describing him as a 'born winner' The adoration between the fans and Keegan was mutual, he was quoted as saying "The only thing I fear is missing an open goal in front of the Kop, when they start singing 'You'll Never Walk Alone' my eyes start to water. There have been times when I've actually been crying while I've been playing''

The 1975-76 season was to be his finest as a Liverpool player, with his all round play and crucial goals, proving pivotal in another league and UEFA Cup double, and Keegan was awarded the Footballer of the Year title.

At the beginning of the 1976-77 season, Kevin Keegan confirmed his intention to leave the club and join German side Hamburg in twelve months time, his huge popularity was dented significantly amongst the Liverpool fans, with many questioning his loyalty to the club.

Keegan's work ethic and commitment however were never in doubt, as he help Liverpool as they looked certain to achieve to an unprecedented 'Treble' which was to be denied by Manchester United winning the FA Cup final, a few days later however, Keegan won back the everlasting affection of the supporters with an amazing performance against Borussia Moenchengladbach to win the European Cup.

Keegan fulfilled his promise and joined Hamburg at the end of the season, after a total of 323 appearances and exactly 100 goals for Liverpool. Keegan went on to be crowned European footballer of the year on two occasions while at Hamburg, but he will always remain one of Liverpool's heroes, and there'll always be a special place for him in the heart of the Liverpool fans.

John Barnes - Liverpool FC Legend

Born in 1963, John Barnes became a true Liverpool legend. Barnes signed for Liverpool from Watford for a fee of 900,000 pounds in 1987, after making 292 appearances for Watford and scoring 83 goals.

Barnes was an instant success at Liverpool, he teamed up with attacking players.

Chelsea FC

John Aldridge and Peter Beardsley, and later Ian Rush, to form the most formidable attacking force of the era.

With the ball at his feet, Barnes was always poised, always enthralling, he combined a blend of strength and skill, and his play was often described as awesome.

Goal scoring aside, John Barnes made a great impact on the Liverpool team and during his first season at the club he helped them to a record-equalling 29-game unbeaten run and, ultimately, a 17th league title for Liverpool. Barnes was awarded the 1987-88 Player of the Year award, the only down point on a fantastic season was defeat to Wimbledon in a dramatic FA Cup final, which denied Liverpool winning the double.

Many say Barnes first season at Liverpool was his best, but he always performed consistently well over the nine years he spent at Liverpool,

1989 saw Liverpool win the FA Cup final against local rivals Everton, however this victory was over shadowed by the tragic events at Hillsborough in the semi-final.

During the 1989-90 season, Liverpool again won the League, while Barnes was Liverpool's top-scorer with 22 league goals and he was again awarded as Player of the Year.

Barnes became the club captain in the mid 1990's, and he also had a great influence on the youngsters in the team at that time, the likes of Robbie Fowler, Jamie Redknapp and Steve McManaman all benefited from playing and training alongside Barnes.

Age started to catch up with Barnes and a serious injury meant he lost some of his effectiveness as a 'winger' and he then assumed a central midfield role, one which he performed outstandingly, with great passing and vision for the game, he was able to hold the ball well and his short, sharp passing game, meant that the Liverpool midfield rarely conceded possession.

Barnes led the Liverpool side out for the 1996 FA Cup final defeat to Manchester United which was to be his last high-profile game for the club. A year later, the midfielder finally ended his career with Liverpool when he signed for Newcastle United.

For those that saw Barnes play, will agree that his illustrious career with Liverpool made him a true legend.

Champions League and Chances of Arsenal

Arsenal Football Club is one of the big football clubs of the world. It has achieved numerous glories in past and the current young side is a real threat to many teams.

Five years without a trophy is an oft quoted term when talking about Arsenal. This season Arsenal wants to deliver. This desire is expressed by the manager. There are many trophies on the line and currently Arsenal is in the position of winning all of them. They are not out of any competition nor are they chasing anyone in the league.

Chelsea FootballClub

Champions League, the toughest tournament according to many, is the only trophy not won by Arsenal. They started their Champions League campaign in grand style. In the first two games they score 09 goal. It was raining goal. They were very comfortably placed. Then came two defeats and the situation in the group changed. On the last day of group stage Arsenal had to win in order to qualify for the round of 16. They got the win they were looking for but they finished second in the group. It means that they have to play their round of 16 matches against the like of Barcelona, Real Madrid and other tough sides. What are the chances of Arsenal to make it to the Quarter Final?

If Arsenal are really unlucky and get Barcelona then the chances of winning Champions League are none to be honest, slim to be optimistic and not impossible to be Arsenal's manager. The way in which Barcelona has treated Real Madrid and the way in which they had already played at the Emirates it is not difficult to say that if on 17 December Arsenal and Barcelona are matched up then Arsenal fans will quietly accept their defeat even before the game.

In case of Real Madrid or other teams Arsenal has some chances to advance to the next round. It will be great test of Arsenal side, who thus far have shown that they are weak at the back and unable to finish the game. Apart from Barcelona, any other side and Arsenal will be ready to take on. It will be tough for Arsenal to advance to the Quarter Final stage but at least they will have some fighting chance.

According to the experts this season Arsenal should forget about Champions League. In fact they are suggesting it to all the teams as they see only Barcelona to win.

How to Manage Like Mourinho

He wins trophies. 17 in total. Since 2002 a winner's medal has been present in the Mourinho household.

However, scratch beneath the media hyperbole and it's apparent HE has won nothing at all. Rather, it is the team that Jose Mario dos Santos Felix Mourinho has built that win. His previous employers, FC Internazionale Milano achieved a remarkable treble which included the UEFA Champions League trophy. Given their football might and grand history there is an increased sense of expectation that their new coach Rafa Benitez will have to build on.

Chelsea FC

Porto, Chelsea, Internazionale. Is it luck that the teams are so successful? Is it the money? Is it him? Maybe it's a bit of all three; as in order to appreciate Mourinho's management style you have to understand the past and you have to appreciate his unique application of transformational management leadership theory. In January 2001, Jose took charge of União de Leiria, a tiny Portuguese football club - who have spent post of their existence in Portugal's second division. Almost a year earlier he had been working as assistant manager at FC Barcelona with some of the best players in the world football. He transformed Leiria and guided them to fifth in the Portuguese Liga - their best ever placing. How?

1. Vision

Vision is the principal trigger of transformational leadership. It goes far beyond the excesses of any individual's perspective as the vision has to be challenging yet attractive to the group. When Mourinho was at Leiria, it was his responsibility to question, motivate and frame the vision of the individual group members. The beauty of football is that success can be monitored by what you have obtained by the end of the season and reduces the distraction of multiple goals. Speak to your employees, find out what motivates them and frame the vision.

2. Provide A Strategy To Suit The Vision

A common slight levelled by critics of Mourinho is his defensive cautious style of play. The experience of his time at Leiria provides an alternative view. The key change from the previous season was a greater emphasis on playing attacked-minded football which resulted in a better win ratio. Choosing a strategy which compliments the vision of the group involves careful consideration and is often based on the strengths and weaknesses of the group's components.

3. Translating The Vision Into Actions

The shift in attacking emphasis from the previous season is telling as it forms the third cornerstone of transformational leadership. Letting others know their roles and how this supports the overall vision is key in getting the involvement of group members. Maintaining constant ongoing open lines communication with group members will help them make a contribution to the attainment of the vision. It must be clearly communicated to individuals what is required of them and how their responsibility to accomplish their actions benefits the group.

4. Express Confidence, Decisiveness and Optimism About The Vision & Implementation

Its is difficult to find press or articles which supports Mourinho's ability to communicate the above to the Leiria players (this may be due to the Portuguese media's heavy focus on FC Porto, Benfica and Sporting Lisbon). However, the principles can be observed following his appointment as manager of FC Porto where he sent the following letter to each member of his new team:

"Welcome to Porto," the letter began. "Hope you have recharged your motivation and ambition... From here, each practice, each game, each minute of your social life must centre on the aim of being champions... First-teamer will not be a correct word. I need all of you. You need each other. We are a TEAM." Along the bottom margin of the page, there was an equation: "Motivation + Ambition + Team + Spirit = SUCCESS."

Communicating the vision must be undermined with a resolute belief that the vision can be obtained. A poster, chart or reminder about the vision should be prominently displayed in an area where the team congregates. Ambiguity or confusion on the vision should be reduced and a positive, collaborative environment should encourage. Set aside regular time for group bonding and activities which allow the team's spirit and identity to develop.

5. Set Key Milestones For The Team To Achieve The Vision

The overriding milestone for Mourinho teams since 2002 is to win trophies. This was not achieved at Leiria and but the vision for that particular collection of players may have been different. Perhaps it was to win against one of the top three sides, or maybe it was to generate more wins than the previous season. Regardless, transformational leaders like Mourinho will present key milestones on where the team should be in relation to achieving the realising the stated vision. As it important as it is to set key milestones, it a crucial that small successes are recognised and that the group is rewarded.

Manchester United Under Malcolm Glazer

Manchester United is a term which is known to football fans all over the world. It is a football club, an English football club to be precise. It is based on Old Tafford, United Kingdom. They are also known as the "Red Devils" of England. It is one of the most famous and popular football club with more than 300 million supporters all over the world. 300 million can be roughly estimated as 5% of the total population! They are the most successful and influential club and ever since the 1990s they are rumored to be the richest clubs in existence. The club had a humble beginning during the initial stages and was even closed down on number of occasions due to mounting debts.

Being initially called the Newton Health Y&R, it was said to be sponsored by a health club. Five European trophies have been credited to them ever since the club came into existence. This included one international cup, one European super cup, two European champion's cup, one cup winner cup. They were bestowed with 12 domestic cups and 16 premier league cups too. They were also relevant in finding and establishing Europe's G-14 football club. Malcolm Glazer who was an American businessman had invested on Manchester United in 2005. He had paid a staggering .47 billion just for a 28.7% share on the team. It was after a year long battle in the courts that he could ultimately get his hands on the team.

Chelsea FootballClub

He had faced difficulties in claiming the club, due to the facts the takeover had made the club poorer by 0 million. Also he being a businessman, fans did not like the idea of a business man holding the reins of one of the most successful football clubs of the world. They had hoped for someone who had adequate knowledge about the sport to invest on the club. Escalating prices of the tickets also angered the fans as the club often received hefty sums from advertisements and sponsorship dealings. A vast majority of the fans even went to the extent of not renewing their season tickets for the forth coming matches of the Manchester United. Songs disrespecting Glazer and his sons can still be heard on many matches played by Manchester United.

Fans worldwide have been largely discontent by the takeover of the club by Malcolm Glazer. He had played significantly no role in the upcoming of the football club. His children were the ones who enjoyed director posts of the club for sometime. Despite these shortcomings, the club has surged forward under his guidance. He had spent quite large sums of money on the club and even more in roping the world's best football players into the club. The club had won two major cups in 2008 itself, the English Premier League and UEFA Champions League. It is to be noted that the Glazer group does not interfere with the daily business dealings of Manchester united and have left such activities to David Gill, the chief executive of Manchester united. Steep increase in the prices of the tickets had prompted many faithful followers to stay away from the club matches.

What To Buy A Chelsea Fan For Christmas

If you know a Chelsea football fan then this article is for you because we will be looking at some good Christmas gifts that are ideal for Chelsea football fans of all ages. Even though many of the products we are going to talk about will be related to Chelsea, you can still use the same ideas for any football club in the United Kingdom.

Detailed below are some good Christmas gifts specifically for Chelsea football fans.

ChelseaFC

Chelsea Football Shirt

This is probably the most obvious gift for a Chelsea fan especially if they do not already have a Chelsea shirt or Chelsea kit of their own. Also the great thing about this gift is that you can buy it for a Chelsea fan of any age, from 1 years of age up to 90 years of age which makes it a great universal gift for any fan.

Another great point is that they come out with new football kits each year and so it means that you can get them the new strip every year and make it a kind of tradition.

Chelsea Merchandise

So this can basically act as your stocking filler gifts for Christmas which can include items such as Chelsea socks, Chelsea underwear, Chelsea cups, Chelsea car mats - pretty much any products you can think of, you can get them it but with Chelsea football club brand attached.

These act as great little Christmas gifts and often much more favoured than just getting someone normal products. So that means a person will prefer a branded pair of socks for their favourite football team, than a plain set.

Chelsea Season Tickets

Well if you got your loved one some Chelsea season tickets you would certainly be popular however the only snag with this fabulous gift is that the prices of these season tickets for a first class team like Chelsea are very high. If you can afford to pay it then great but if you are struggling to afford this kind of gift then you can always go for just a one off ticket to a big match. This is probably the second best option but it still is a lovely gift and one that a true football fan would really appreciate.

Championship Manager

This is a game that nearly every football fan talks of and it is played on the PC or laptop. It basically allows you to be the manager of your football team and take them through a full season with you making all the strategy plays such as training, formation and transfers. So this is great for a Chelsea fan because it allows them to play as Chelsea manager and take them through a season with them as the manager.

Premier League: Liverpool To Lose 9 Points Owing To Ridiculous Rule

Why should players be penalised for no fault of theirs? Liverpool FC face the unwelcome prospect of being docked 9 points in the Premier League, thereby pushing them into possible relegation.

This is what is likely to happen if Kop Holdings the company that owns the club goes into administration, an event that looks increasingly likely to happen after the Premier League's approval of the club's sale to New England Sports Ventures (NESV).

Chelsea FC

NESV, the owners of Boston Red Sox have made a bid to buy the troubled Anfield outfit for 300 million pounds. The Premier League has approved the sale in the face of opposition from the current American owners who consider said offer an undervalued bid, and are holding out for double the amount, at 600 million.

George Gillett and Tom Hicks bought the club in 2007 for 174 million. The debts of the club which stood at 40 million when the American duo bought Kop Holdings have risen to 240 million, apart from another 40 million payable to Royal Bank of Scotland, the creditor.

To foil the bid, the American owners sacked the chairman and another director and tried to foist their own candidates in their place. But the move came after the directors had approved the sale to NESV.

The Premier League is run as a corporation, with each of its 20 member clubs owning a share. With the Premier League in its turn approving the sale, it is in the club's interest to have their owners in place by October 15, to avoid having to pay an additional 60 million to RBS as penalty for defaulting on the loan repayment.

In case the sale doesn't go through by the October 15 deadline, RBS has the option of extending the deadline till the sale transpires, following due process of law. Such a move would absolve the new owners of having to pay the 60 million pounds in penalty to RBS.

Gillett and Hicks are likely to try and block the takeover of the club by NESV, in the High Court, an action that would automatically push Kop Holdings into administration.

Irrespective of what happens, in the High Court, the poor players of Liverpool FC would still have to pay for the board room wrangles at Anfield.

In case the holding company Kop Holdings goes into administration, the club would be penalized nine points. Liverpool have just six points from seven games and are currently in 18th position on the Premier League points table.

Incidentally, Portsmouth were the first Premier League squad to receive the nine-point penalty and consequent relegation, last season, after the club went into administration. Liverpool look set to follow in Portsmouth's footsteps.

How to Spot Good Arsenal and Chelsea Memorabilia

There are too many ways to fake a signature - particularly a signature of someone so famous that he or she has scrawled his or her name across thousands of pictures. Top football players probably sign more autographs than any other celebrity - more than movie stars, more than pop stars, more than anyone.

That's why it's so easy to forge their signatures: there are so many examples out there that the general shape and style is adulterated by its own frequency. No-one can sign 10,000 pictures in his lifetime without allowing a little variation to affect his signature. The fakers of Chelsea memorabilia and Arsenal memorabilia rely on that - using the fact that so many genuine variants are out there to slip a few dodgy ones under the radar.

Chelsea

There is, though, one radar that no faker can fail to get nailed by. Unfortunately, that radar is a bit of an industry secret - so the only way the public is able to use it is if someone tells them about it. Here's how it works.

Any genuine signing event (most items of Chelsea memorabilia and Arsenal memorabilia are generated at these events, which are basically unseen press junkets where players sign photos and kit) is documented on film, or with digital photographs that have an un-removable date on them. A proper visual record will show each individual player, clearly signing his name on whatever item of memorabilia is in question. That item of memorabilia will have a unique number associated with it, which is cross referenced to the visual documentation of the signing. Without this visual proof and its associated number, a piece of Chelsea memorabilia or Arsenal memorabilia should be considered suspect and left well alone.

Other ways to be sure that your item of signed Chelsea or Arsenal kit is genuine can be found on the sites that do the selling. As a basic rule - go with a site that looks professional. Anything full of links to other sites, or other buying opportunities, is probably less trustworthy than a site that has clearly been well built and runs smoothly. Apply the same principle to the sites you visit as you would to anything else. If the quality looks suspect, it probably is - and a suspect quality site is only going to be selling suspect quality goods.

All Internet purchases are protected by a cast iron guarantee. That's to stop sight unseen goods from being sold without proper description or advertising. As a result, all sites selling Chelsea memorabilia, and Arsenal memorabilia, should prominently display money back guarantees, delivery promises and instructions telling users what to do if they are unhappy with their items. Sites that do not have this clear evidence of willingness to undo unfortunate occurrences or reimburse for unwanted goods, may well not be playing the game properly.

As with all things, buying memorabilia online is a matter of common sense. If something seems priced in such a way that it is too good to be true, it is. Buy Chelsea memorabilia and Arsenal memorabilia at prices in line with the going rate - or be prepared to be disappointed.

Barcelona FC - the Most Famous Football Team on the Planet?

With its avid fan base - known as the culés - and a motto that declares, "El Barca es mes que un club," the Barcelona FC would appear to have a lot to live up to when it comes to its reputation. It is safe to say, though, that Barca - as it is typically referred to by football fans - is the most successful football team on the planet today. With a rich history spanning back to the year 1899, and strings of successes that leave many other clubs in the dust, Barcelona FC offers football adherents a roster of the top stars in the game, consistent excellence and a level of excitement that is unmatched by virtually any other major sports team in the world.

A Tradition Of Excellence

Chelsea FC

The Barcelona football club was founded in the year 1899 by Joan Gamper and a group of Spanish, Swiss and English men. Almost immediately, the Barcelona FC emerged as one of the top football clubs in Spain; it was off to a marvelous start, to say the least. Despite this early success, though, the club nearly folded early on; Gamper took over as president in 1908 and helped steer the club back towards success. Under his leadership, Barcelona FC secured its first stadium and started accumulating a number of impressive victories.

Surviving Through Thick And Thin

The twentieth century was a tumultuous one, and between many key victories the Barcelona FC had to grapple with the Spanish Civil War as well as two World Wars. Despite it all, though, Barcelona FC came out on the other side with a truly phenomenal team. With the signing up of Dutch phenom Johan Cruyff in 1973, Barcelona FC rocketed to unprecedented heights. Since that time, the club has essentially been unstoppable. Star players - including Maradona, Lineker, Figo, Stoitchkov and Rivaldo - have all done their part to create some of the most passionate fans in the world of football.

Strong Evidence Of Success

Beyond their many electrifying victories and long lines of top rates players, Barcelona FC has enjoyed more accolades than seemingly any other football club in the world. Hotels in Barcelona book up quick when the team plays at the 98,000-person capacity Camp Nou. The International Federation of Football History and Statistics named the club the most consistently successful one since statistics have been kept. It's little wonder that Barcelona hotels fill up when the team plays, considering its first place UEFA ranking and many other key achievements.

Immerse Yourself In Barcelona FC Pride Firsthand

Ardent fans of the Barcelona FC - and there are millions of them - can revel in the club's glory by visiting Club Nou and touring the premises. By booking hotels in Barcelona, visitors can head over to Europe's largest stadium and enjoy one of two different self-guided tours. There is also a fascinating museum on the premises, where fans can observe the club's many trophies up close and personal. If you want to see all of this for yourself, book Barcelona hotels and plan a trip to the home of football's most successful team.

EPL Team Profile - Wigan

The formal name of the club is Wigan Athletic Football Club, or Wigan Athletic FC. They are popularly referred to as the Latics, and train at their home venue, the DW Stadium, in Greater Manchester, England, with a capacity of just over 25,000.

Founded in 1932, Wigan are the youngest team in the Premier League.

Chelsea FC

The owner of the club is Dave Whelan, and the manager, Roberto Martinez.

They were only promoted to the Premier League in 2005, and finished last season at 16th place on the League table.

In the current season, Wigan started badly, losing 4-0 to Blackburn, and 6-0 to Chelsea in their first two matches. Then they pulled off a surprise, beating Tottenham 1-0 in the third.

Early Season Preview:

I wouldn't blame you, if at first glance, you were pessimistic about Wigan's prospects this season. They have lost some quality players, who did duty for the Latics in the last season, and the previous.

However, with Robert Martinez at the helm and a striker of the calibre of Hugo Rodalegga, anything is possible. And Wigan might surprise all of us yet.

The team that beat Tottenham in the third round match of the ongoing season comprised of:

Al Habsi, Gohouri, Alcaraz, Boyce, Stam, Figueroa, McCarthy, Thomas, Diame, Boselli, Rodallega, Pollitt, Caldwell, Mustoe, Watson, Gomez, McArthur, and McManaman.

Left back Maynor Figouroa has been a consistently good player, and hence his great popularity with fans and rival clubs.

In fact, Wigan's biggest worry should be to hang on to Figouroa, or he could leave them, just as his predecessors, Wilson Palacios and Antonio Valencia, did.

With Sunderland managing to lure away Titus Bramble, there is a greater burden on Wigan and Figuoroa alike to keep their goal safe from rival strikers.

Crystal Palace's Victor Moses is in his second season with Wigan, and is widely believed to have great potential that he could well fufill this season.

Martinez has signed Antolin Alcaraz and Ronnie Stam, with wide experience playing in Europe, as possible replacements for Titus Bramble. He has also brought in James McArthur and Mauro Boselli.

'Keeper Ali Al Habsi is with Wigan on loan from Bolton.

The most significant departure is that of former skipper Mario Melchiot.

A relegation battle appears imminent for Wigan, and their first two matches were not the start the squad would have envisaged.

In late news coming in from the transfer window deadline day, yesterday, Wigan have done well by signing Chelsea's Franco Di Santio, and also by getting Manchester United's Tom Cleverly, on loan.

And their victory over Spurs in the third match bodes well for the Latics who could manage to stave off relegation, while not finishing much better than they did last year.

Brazil Soccer Fans - The Unbeatable

Brazil soccer fans are known to be the most passionate and energetic crowd. They bring a very boosting atmosphere that is a good encouragement for players. During the game they really contribute a lot to the team by uplifting the energy of the footballers and giving them full support.

There are even so die-hard that would do anything and giving their all. They would get hurt and get so affected when the team will not make it on the match or did not perform so well. As what we can see on television, there are Brazil fans who would cry, feel frustrated and it is like the end of the world for them. That is how they show affection for their team.

Chelsea Fanclub

Despite their undying support, there are times too that they would make criticisms, in the 2006 World Cup when the Brazil team was eliminated. Fans were so mad that they did not welcome home the players. They can't accept the downfall but the team has made it up though and brings back the fans eagerness. Indeed they are unbeatable when it comes to all out support and the undying affection.

They are also popular due to its colorful costumes and Brazilian ladies, fans are noted as the sexiest crowd in the soccer stadiums. With all those painted faces and bodies in yellow and green who wouldn't get attracted? In the soccer history, Brazil has the most number of fans not just from their country but in other parts of the world as well.

In The Beginning - The History Of Liverpool Football Club

The English football league was formed in 1888, and on September 8th, Anfield laid turf to the first football league game in its history. The home team wasn't dressed in red, as would be the case now-a-days. They wore the blue and white strip of Everton FC.

This marked the beginning of what was to become a great name in world football - Anfield.

Chelsea FC

The man behind Everton FC, and the owner of the Anfield ground was John Houlding, a local brewer and pub owner, member of the local council, and later the Mayor of the city of Liverpool.

In 1892, however, a row broke out between Houlding and the Everton board. Tensions had been building up over some time, because the Everton board felt that Houlding was profiting quite considerably from the sales of ales on match day, and the final straw broke when he raised the ground rent.

Everton FC left Anfield, and moved to their new home at Goodison Park, leaving behind a handful of players. The same week Houlding founded Liverpool FC on 15th of March, with William E. Barclay as club secretary and John McKenna as chairman and manager of the team.

Liverpool FC wasn't allowed immediate access to the football league, and started life in the Lancashire League. Their first competitive match was played at Anfield in front of a handful of spectators, while Everton was playing a game the same day in front of a crowd of 10,000. The rivalry was on!

Liverpool FC won their first game, a friendly against Rotherham, by an impressive 7-1 score. Their first league game they won 8-0, and they went on to comfortably winning the Lancashire League, as well as the Liverpool District Cup and the Reserves Cup. Quite an achievement for a club less than 12 months old.

Houlding adopted the City of Liverpool's colour, red, for the playing shirts in 1894, and the liverbird in the club crest in 1904. Later the club slogan "You'll Never Walk Alone" has been added.

This is how 3 men, in 1892, founded what was later to become the most successful club in the history of English Football - Liverpool FC.

Are Football Clubs Owned By Fans The Future Of Football?

For fifteen years now, media moguls, TV corporations and, latterly, self-interested millionaires and billionaires have ploughed cash into English football (or soccer, if you prefer), changing the upper echelons of the game beyond all recognition.

Top Premiership clubs report annual profits running into tens of millions of pounds. Players take home weekly pay checks that exceed the average annual salary in the UK - with the top players getting four or fives times that.

Chelsea Football Club

And the British Government mops up too, taking an estimated £4.3 billion (yes, that's right, £4.3 billion) in tax from the sport every year.

So, you'd think, with all this money flying around, everyone would be a winner? Well, no. Unfortunately not.

Whilst blank chequebooks are being waved at Premiership clubs by investors from the US, Thailand, Russia and even Iceland, only a fraction of this money trickles down to the lower leagues. Whilst the top clubs have gone from strength to strength, the clubs in the lower leagues are, if anything, slightly worse off than they were 15 years ago.

Not a season goes by without half a dozen smaller clubs having to be dragged back from the brink of bankruptcy by a last-minute deal. This season is no exception with Coventry City & Luton Town already having accepted the 10-point penalty that comes with going into administration. Bournemouth are rumoured to be close to doing the same, just as Leeds United and Boston United recover from the same experience last season. These clubs are some of many that hover dangerously close to going out of business completely - tragic endings to centuries of football tradition.

The simple fact is that the commercial aspects of lower league football in England no longer add up. Spiraling costs, ridiculous player salaries, agent fees and fierce competition from an ever-increasing number of televised games which serve to reduce gate receipts are all making the smaller clubs tighten their belts season after season. No wonder some clubs are reporting weekly losses running into thousands of pounds.

A bleak picture that is repeated at clubs up and down the country. But, amidst all the financial gloom, there are a few tales of optimism that football fans everywhere cling onto for comfort. Indeed, it is the fans themselves that are often the forgotten but essential ingredient to any football club's success, something some of the Premiership clubs could do well with remembering.

Increasingly it is the fans and, more specifically, supporters groups that are helping and orchestrating the survival of the smaller clubs in professional football.

Over 60 English football clubs are now supported financially in one way or another by a supporters trust. Some teams, such as Exeter City, only exist today because they were saved from being dissolved when supporters groups invested their own hard-earned money into their clubs.

The idea of supporter's trusts is not new. In the early 1900s, clubs such as Leicester City invited local residents to raise a 'working man's subscription' to enable the clubs to attract better players, but it's only really in the past 20 years that the concept has really been considered as a viable means of financially stabilizing a football club.

Such has been the emergence of supporters groups, that in 2006, the then UK Sports Minister, Richard Caborn, petitioned UEFA to consider the benefits of fan ownership of football clubs, not only in the UK but across Europe. Top of the list of considerations was the idea that Supporters Trusts could be used to supplement or even take full ownership of football clubs. With Mr. Caborn known to be a fan of Supporters Direct, the company that has orchestrated the creation of many of the trusts already in place, the likelihood is that more trusts will be formed over the coming years.

Indeed, at fifteen UK clubs, supporters now hold 100% of the shares and own the clubs outright and the past six months has seen this concept evolve yet further still. The emergence of fan-based web enterprises such as MyFootballClub and www.thepeoplesclub.com are once again pushing the boundaries of fan ownership in football further still.

These initiatives not only allow the fans to own the club, but also to run it on a day-to-day basis. Through online voting, fans are able to make wide ranging decisions about the club including choosing the team for each match and even hiring and firing the manager.

MyFootballClub's acquisition of Ebbsfleet United in the autumn of 2007 was a groundbreaking step towards this new form of fan ownership and ThePeoplesClub.com are expected to follow suit at the end of the 2007/08 season with their own acquisition. Similar models to this have already emerged in other European counties including France, Denmark and Israel.

Whilst football traditionalists frown upon the schemes, primarily doubting the fans' ability to run the club effectively, these schemes all have the potential to bring significant levels of investment to the clubs they acquire - often upwards of £1million per annum. There are very few clubs in the lower leagues of English football that could afford to turn down an annual injection of cash of that magnitude.

In the commercialized world of football, these kinds of schemes are no longer a fad, but a necessity. Whether you agree with the concept of web-based fan models, or simply love standing on the terraces at your local club every Saturday afternoon, there may come a time sooner or later where you will need to put your hand in your pocket and invest your own hard-earned cash in order to ensure that your club gets to play another season.

There is no doubt that the billionaires and large corporates will continue to pump money into the top end of English football, but could it be that fan ownership is the way forwards for smaller clubs allowing them not only to survive, but also to prosper?

Who Will Win the FA Premier League in 2011

Here are some predictions for the top five places in the premier League and why, in the order they will finish. Each of the teams have made some changes, as they do each season and I assess the impact of the new recruits and the players who have left the club.

1 - Manchester United
Despite losing out to Chelsea in the last game of the season, Man United, must be favourites once again this season. With the addition of a proven goal-scorer in Javier Hernandez and the Fulham defender Chris Smalling they will win the league this time. Alex Ferguson will be doubly keen to do well, especially as his reign will be ended soon.

Chelsea FootballClub

Transfer Rumours: Joe Cole, Karim Benzema, Wesley Sneijder, Luis Suarez, Jack Rodwell, James Milner

2 - Manchester City
Once again City are expected to do well. They missed out on champions league football in almost the final game, but have added some experienced quality players who know how to win. What Mancini must do this season is to mould the new and old players into a winning unit, and give them belief. The recent aquisition of David Silva will give them the needed fire power up front and make them a very close bet.

Transfer Rumours: Fernando Torres, Edin Dzeko, James Milner, Joe Cole, Zlatan Ibrahimovic

3 - Chelsea
Carlo Ancelotti proved to be a good manager, winning both the Premier League and the FA Cup in his first season, though with the arrival of Yossi Benayoun from Liverpool, replacing the fans favourite Joe Cole, and the departures of Ballack and Beletti, he will struggle to get the same level from this team. Expect Junior players to be brought into the squad this season. Chelsea also seem very keen on Fernando Torres, which would be an interesting purchase, as he has struggled in this league to produce his best form, and only performs well in odd games.

Transfer Rumours: Fernando Torres, Neven Subotic, Kaka, Franck Ribery, Sergio Aguero, James Milner

4 - Arsenal
Arsenal once again had an indifferent season by their standards, having done well against the weaker teams but struggling against the big boys. They have brought in a couple of French players, one being a centre back to replace William Gallas and Sol Campbell. Expect Arsenal to be in the hunt come the end of the season, Arsene Wenger knows what it takes to get them playing despite the recent unrest, they will be challenging once again. Wenger is a master of bringing youth into the team and expect the same this season.

Transfer Rumours: Joe Hart, Hugo Rodellego, Joe Cole, Felipe Melo de Carvalho, Mark Schwarzer, Gary Cahill

5 - Tottenham
Spurs did remarkably well to make the final Champions League place, being the surprise package in the league. This term though teams will know exactly what to expect from them and their path to the top seats in the league will be that much harder this season. Harry Redknapp has a reputation of being a player wheeler dealer, but so far in this transfer window there has been no activity, though the rumours that Joe Cole will join on a free transfer still persist.

Transfer Rumours: Steven Peinaar, Eidur Gudjohnsen, Joe Cole, Connor Wickham, Craig Bellamy, Diego Forlan

Other teams who might break into the top for are Everton, Aston Villa and Liverpool. I really expect Manchester City to push the other top teams this season with Mancini having a season under his belt. It also pleases me to see them doing well making the Premier League that bit more competitive.

Honored - 4 Best Midfielders

Football game is a little entropy, so it's unpredictable; one in two countries strength be scheduled to win as long as the match is still in play, it has 50-50 chance for win. Football has part of confusion that increases with time as large number of variations presented by players from different countries; as they have good midfielders turns game in moment.

To win, it takes the complete effort of all eleven players. Every player has a different role, and has variable ideas to get the game twisted, such as midfielders who are playmakers. 4 best midfielders are Nedved, Kaka, Gerrard, and Robben, well known for their skills to touch, talent to shoot larger, and passing proficiency. Midfielders are to uphold control over the ball, taking the ball from defenders and passing it to the strikers, on top of deceiving opposing players.

ChelseaFC

These 4 Best midfielders are professionally trained performers and they can play as centre, defensive, attacking, and wide midfielder. Midfielders are not much concerned with the goal; they create goal scoring opportunities and strictly focus for getting the ball from the opposing player. Midfielders are more concerned about possessing the ball.

Apart from these 4 best midfielders, Ronaldinho, Gerrard, Kaka, Xevi, and many others are players who are honored for their performance. Serving as a midfielder, he helps creating good focus over the game. Look online to get more info about the legends of football teams, watch their matches for their moves. Ronaldino is the player I like most; he serves both as offensive and defensive.

Chelsea Season Preview 2008

Of all the 'Big 4' clubs, the season ahead should be most interesting for Chelsea. After all, they've got a new coach in Big Phil Scholari and it looks like they will also have a new-look squad as well. But can Roman's Blue Army continue to compete at the very top?

As I write this article, no major names have exited Stamford Bridge but the likes of Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba might well end up somewhere else come the start of the season which would be a tremendous blow to Chelsea. These two players have been central to their success over recent seasons and keeping them would represent more of a coup than bringing in any of the global superstars Chelsea have been linked with. The reason is that they're already tried and tested in the squad and in the Premiership and you know that they will do the business over the course of a season.

Chelsea Football Club

Last season saw some notable flops at Chelsea, most notably Florent Malouda who came in from Lyon and never really hit the heights that were expected of him. If you consider he was supposed to be a replacement for Arjen Robben, then it further highlights how disappointing Malouda actually was. A big plus for Chelsea though was the emergeance of Micheal Ballack as a true Premiership star. His first season was a let down with so many fans expecting big things from the German skipper, but particularly towards the end of last season he showed himself to be one of the top players in the league. If Chelsea can get a good season out of him, then it will make all the difference to their success.

Who do Chelsea need to bring in? Well, if they lose Drogba then they certainly need a forward to lead the line. It is possible that Chelsea could revert to a 4-4-2 system for the first time in many years if Big Phil does play the kind of attacking football we expect him to. If this is the case then two big name forwards might well be required depending on whether Anelka is up to the job. Deco is a name that has been heavily linked to Chelsea and his arrival would be a great coup for both Chelsea and the Premiership.

As much as I can see Chelsea football shirts regaining the gold Premiership badge by making the right signings and landing on their feet this year, I can also invisage them getting it totally wrong and slipping down the Premiership pecking order. If I had to make a prediction, I'd say they'll finish third or fourth in the Premiership, but make a big impact on the European stage. However, I'm fully prepared to be wrong on this one.

Real Madrid - The Best Football Club in the World

They are not only the most successful club in the world but also the richest in the world according to the latest survey done by the money league which publish their research results annually. Yes, its true that Real Madrid are the richest club by income for the season 2006-2007 probably for the season 2007-2008 too but the results are not completed yet.

So what makes Real Madrid not only the richest club in the world but more significantly, the most successful as well.Well the statistics don't lie and more often then not speak for themselves. For any club to be successful, only two titles could and should be given credit, The league and the Champions League, the rest are mere formalities as you all know (it does not take much to beat Sao Paulo in a cup final) so I am going to ignore the minor trophies here, lets have a look at most of the major football clubs track records against the Madrid Galacticos.

Chelsea FootballClub

Manchester United have won only two Champions league trophy, one was way back when it was known as the European cup and the other in 1999,they have 16 league titles.

* Barcelona have also won two champions league trophies and 18 league titles

* Liverpool have won the competition FIVE times and they have 18 league titles

* Inter Milan have 2 champions league titles and 15 league titles

* Ac milan have 7 champions league titles and 17 league titles

There are some other major clubs as well but they have just started to grow so lets just ignore them for a moment.

Finally, Real Madrid has won 9 champions league titles and 30 league titles. Now I have listed all the great clubs of Europe above, not even a single club can match or come close to the records set by the Spanish powerhouse. Thus proving what I stated earlier that real Madrid is the undisputed champion of champions.

Real Madrid is the only team that holds the Cup in property, having won the title five consecutive times.

Footballer Profile - Steven Gerrard

Certainly there will be many loyal Koppites who could make a fairly convincing case in favour of Steven Gerrard being Liverpool's finest ever midfield player

After all, few Liverpool players of any generation can have been such a vital part of the team as the current captain. Not many have an FA Cup Final named after them - Stanley Matthews, Bert Trautmann, a white horse called Billy - and Steven Gerrard will probably join that list. Few other footballers can single-handedly change matches the way Gerrard does and, in one of the best Cup Finals of the modern era, he did just that in 2006 against West Ham. With Liverpool two goals adrift, first of all Gerrard picked out Cisse with an immaculate long diagonal pass for their first goal and then he volleyed home a Peter Crouch knockdown to equalise. More was to come though for, with Liverpool behind again, and the crowd waiting for the final whistle, Gerrard hit an amazing shot from 37 yards. Liverpool won the match on penalties; Gerrard, of course, scored one of them.

Chelsea FC

That wasn't, of course, the first occasion that 'Stevie G' had turned a cup final on its head. Previously, in the Champions League final against Milan in 2005, known to Liverpool fans as 'the miracle of Istanbul', Gerrard had headed home the goal just after the half-time interval that started Liverpool's resurgence after being three goals down at the break. Gerrard is now the only player to have scored in an FA Cup, League Cup, Champions League and UEFA Cup final; that's some big game temperament.

Steven Gerrard has played his entire career for Liverpool FC, making his debut as an eighteen year old back in 1998. Becoming a regular two years later, when he also made his first England appearance, he has gone on to win a host of awards. PFA Young Player of the Year in his first full season, as well as PFA Fans' Player of the same season, he's added the PFA Player of the Year, UEFA Club Footballer of the Year and, in season 2008-09, he was voted the Football Writers' Footballer of the Year. Additionally, he has been in the UEFA Team of the Year on three occasions and in the FIFPro World XI twice. Steven Gerrard is also one of the select number of players to have been awarded an MBE by the Queen during his career, in December, 2007.

There has, until recently, been an almost constant debate in the English media about whether it was possible for Steven Gerrard and the Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard to perform effectively together in the England team. With both attack minded midfielders preferring to play central roles, it has sometimes been suggested that they would somehow get in each other's way playing for their country. Thankfully for England's chances of success, Fabio Capello has put this idea into the dustbin of history and made both players integral parts of his World Cup qualifying team and so Gerrard has a great opportunity of adding to his 76 caps and 16 goals for his country. England fans might also like to remember that it was in a particular 5 - 1 win against Germany that the Liverpool player scored his very first international goal; another trade mark 'screamer'.

With is tackling ability, his range of passing, ferocious shooting and totally committed and enthusiastic attitude on the pitch, Steven Gerrard is undoubtedly one of the leading talents of his generation. To Liverpool fans, he's up there with the very best of the players to have pulled on their famous red kit.

Chelsea Will Beat Barcelona - Champions League Semi Final 2009

The much awaited tussle between Chelsea and Barcelona football clubs is here and the first leg of the two leg semifinal will commence in the evening in Barcelona. It is deemed as the match up of the season with teams with different abilities trying to out do each other. In many ways it will be a contest between the fast paced physical approach of English premier league and technically superior one touch football of Barcelona.

The prediction is hard to make and even both coaches are staying away from making any sort of announcements before the match.

Chelsea FC

I guess I need to put my head on block and I'm going with Chelsea Football Club. I believe the Barcelona is about to catch a slap. They will be beaten over both legs.

Chelsea unlike Bayern Munich in the previous round have a much stable and permanent defense and it will be mighty hard for the Barcelona's forward to run them home and dry by beating the off side trap. Henry, Eto and Messi are good in La Liga this season but they haven't come across the physical approach of Chelsea. Bayern had three new defenders in last four and probably playing for the first time together at Nou Camp.

Secondly most of Barcelona creativity is focused on Xavi and Inniesta, and the duo will face a stiff challenge from Essien and Ballack, both physically demanding players especially upper body strength which the Barcelona players lack.

The dual of the match could be either Essien and Xavi or Malouda vs Dani Alves. It may seem strange but most of Messi industriousness depends upon Alves as it provides Messi to go in on his left foot. Malouda drives will not only keep Alves in his own half but his better adaptability to defensive work will also make it easy for Boswinga to defend against Messi. Henry and Eto are free running players and they won't get any space today so won't be a big surprise if one of them get substituted around 75 minutes.

Leave all the rest to Drogba has Barcelona don't have something called defense in football and with fast paced closing they will bound to make errors. Barcelona is not getting anything out of its home match.

Leave the rest for next week.

Ronnie Whelan - Liverpool FC Legend

Born in 1961 Ronnie Whelan began his football career in the Irish League, before being signed by Liverpool under manager Bob Paisley in 1979 for a cut price £35,000. Signing Whelan proved to be a very shrewd investment as he went on to captain the club and make over 400 appearances for Liverpool.

Whelan was a hard working skilful midfield player, who could also double up as a defender when required, he made his debut against Stoke City in 1981 and crowned his debut with a goal in the 3-0 victory.

Chelsea FC

It was the 1981-82 season that Ronnie Whelan established a regular place in the Liverpool first team, a season that would see Liverpool win the League Cup with Whelan scoring two goals against Spurs in the final. Liverpool then went onto win the League title, and as if that was enough for his first full season, Whelan was then voted as the young player of the year.

Having succeed his midfield role from the great Ray Kennedy, Whelan fitted into the role straight away, never looking out of his depth in this great Liverpool team. They retained both the League title and the League Cup the following season, with Whelan scoring again in the final, this time against Manchester United.

Things just got better for Liverpool as the 1984 season saw them win a treble of trophies, retaining the League title, the league Cup and the not so small addition of the European Cup, as Liverpool won this trophy for the fourth time.

Despite a surprising trophy less season during 1985, Ronnie Whelan had a great season during the 1985/86 campaign as Liverpool won the League Cup and FA Cup when they beat Merseyside rivals Everton in the final.

After missing much of the 1987/88 season through injury and losing his place in the team to Nigel Spackman, Ronnie bounced back the following season being made club captain following a long term injury to Alan Hansen, as Liverpool won the FA Cup in the 1988/89 season, but narrowly missed out on the League title as Arsenal scored in the final seconds of the season to clinch the title.

Whelan was part of the Liverpool team that reclaimed the title in 1990, however due to injuries and the emergence of new players Ronnie Whelan's appearances for Liverpool were now diminishing, Despite a resurgence under manager Graeme Souness his days at Liverpool now seemed numbered, as he faced competition for his place from players like Steve McManaman and Jamie Redknapp and he left Liverpool to Southend United in 1994 after making 443 Appearances and scoring 73 goals, he will always remain a Liverpool Football Club legend.

Economicsts View of Footballers' Wages

In the world of football, having the best players is everything. Big clubs like Real Madrid has been paying record prices for footballers over the years, the pinnacle of this was seen in 2009, with the sale of European player of the year Ronaldo leaving Man Utd to join Los Galacticos for an incredible 70 million pounds.

Now, when looking at the modern day prices and salaries of football players, to me it seems bizarre. Many commentators will argue that they get what they're paid for. However when you consider the actual hours they work, the difficulty of this work, and the demand/supply of there services, it's hard to understand the predicament we're already in.

Chelsea FootballClub

Premier League footballers are thought to earn anywhere between £1 million and £5 million per year, depending on their skill level and which club they're at. A number of people will make the claim "they're that good at football they're worth it". However in football, just like any other economic system where market forces in free trade determine prices and wages, sets these wages. Clubs are happy paying ridiculous salaries for these players, and yet I still cannot understand nor comprehend why.

Look at the condition of football clubs in England today. Almost all of them in under massive debt. Manchester Utd has a debt of around £500 million, as does Liverpool, and Chelsea's debt is also similar. The point I'm making is that football clubs don't appear to be profitable assets or organisations at all. Owners don't invest in football clubs for profit.

This then leads to the conclusion or praxis - if football clubs don't make profit, then how can footballer wages possibly be set so high under free market conditions? Think about it, a business and it's costs should be restricted by how much profit it makes, or how much it can afford. If a football club makes no profit, not just in a single case but on a generalised scale, then how can footballers' pay still be set so high? It really doesn't make sense to me at all. There are a massive number of football players worldwide, we have numerous professional leagues in England alone, and many football clubs will have up to 100 professional players on contract. So how is it possible that players' salaries are increasing when football clubs generally seem to be getting poorer?

Futbol Club Barcelona

With supporters of FC Barcelona located all around the world and a massive global following, it will come as no surprise to most people that one priority for many visitors to Barcelona is to see the team in action at the Nou Camp.

Interest has become especially keen over the last few years when players like Ronaldinho, Messi and Eto'o have displayed the kind of on-pitch magic that makes the final result almost irrelevant. Luckily for supporters and the team though, this spectacular football goes beyond just show and the team is able to score too.

The result of this is that Barcelona have won the Spanish La Liga for the last 2 seasons and took home the Champions League trophy in 2006 and the result means that Futbol Club Barcelona is a bigger draw than ever.

Futbol Club Barcelona

The club's most eagerly awaited matches are against Real Madrid, the archrival of Barcelona. The matches are always hard fought, with the honour of each club at stake and the matches are always sold out quickly. Other more recent rivals include Chelsea after a number of clashes over the last few years in Champions League, and after the Champions League defeat of Arsena, that club can surely be added to the list of arch rivals.

With tickets going on sale to the public just 2 weeks before a match and 130,000 club members vying for 98,000 tickets it often makes sense to book from one of the ticket agents with a guaranteed allocation for each match.

10 Must Do Children Events and Family Outings in London

Many children events in London are absolutely free and many can be purchased reasonably cheaply as a family package. A little planning before the vacation begins can help widen the scope of activities for your children.

Here are 10 must do children events in London.

Chelsea FootballClub

1. London has well over 200 museums and galleries and most of them are free. Kids will love The Natural History Museum, The Science Museum and The Victoria and Albert Museum, and they are conveniently located in South Kensington. The Natural History Museum has well over 67 million items in its collection. Look out for the skeleton and reconstruction of the extinct dodo in the Bird Gallery and in the section devoted to dinosaurs, the giant flesh-eating Tyrannosaurus rex. The Science Museum is a fascinating place with a kid-friendly environment and plenty of hands-on exhibits which are both entertaining and educational. There are five floors with each floor looking at different aspect of technology and science using displays and interactive information. The Science Museum also has an ancient clock in the Time Measurement Gallery which is still in working order more than 600 years after its construction! The Victoria and Albert Museum, more affectionately known as the V&A, has a vast collection of decorative and fine arts.

2. Children love to run around in parks and gardens and there are several well known parks in London. Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens are adjacent to each other and together they cover an area of about 615 acres of flowers, trees and greenery. The Serpentine is an area of entertainment and recreation, with boats for hire on the Serpentine in summer. The Princess Diana Memorial Playground is in Kensington Gardens opposite the Queensway underground (Central Line). There are lots of children events and activities in the playground with the Pirate Ship taking centre stage. The children play area is fenced up and is guarded by security personnel. Regent's Park is a couple of miles north of Hyde Park. This is also a wonderfully organized park with lots of flowers and greenery. There is an Open Air Theatre in Queen Mary's Garden, which is very popular in summer. Regent's Park Zoo is also within the park if you fancy giving your children a treat. (It's free with a London Pass.) Bandstand music can be heard at lunchtime during peak summer months.

3. Children events can include sightseeing on a London Pass. For a modest investment the children can enjoy free entry to over 55 sights and tourist attractions in London. These include: The London Zoo, Tower of London, Thames River Cruise, St Paul's Cathedral, Windsor Castle, Tower Bridge Exhibition, Kensington Palace, Hampton Court Palace and many more attractions. You simply pay the one off price for the London Pass of your choice (there are 4 durations to choose from) and then you can enter as many of the tourist attractions included on the pass without further payment.

4. For pomp and ceremony, children events should include a visit to Buckingham Palace and the Changing of the Guards. Buckingham Palace, the home of the Queen, was built in 1703. Look at the flag pole on the top of the Palace. When the Queen is in residence, the Royal Standard Flag is raised. A soldier is responsible for taking it down as soon as the Queen is away. During summer you can visit its State Apartments (there is a charge) and see the Queen's large garden and collection of artwork. The Changing of the Guard can be viewed for free at 11.30am every day during summer and alternate days during winter.

5. Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament are popular London landmarks and is one of the "must do" children events. The Houses of Parliament, also known as the Palace of Westminster, was built in AD 1040 by Edward the Confessor and was the main Royal residence in London until Henry VIII move to Whitehall. It is the largest Gothic Building in the world with over 1,000 rooms and two miles of corridor in it. Guy Fawkes unsuccessfully attempted to blow up Parliament in 1606 and was tried and sentenced to death in Westminster. Big Ben, one of London's most famous landmarks, towers 96 metres high in the sky overlooking Westminster and is open to tours for UK residents who have made arrangements with their MPs. Unfortunately overseas visitors cannot climb the 393 steps to the top.

6.Covent Garden is a fun place not only for shoppers but also for kids. Covent Garden was originally known as Convent Garden where fruits and vegetables for the Monks of Westminster were grown. The houses around Covent Garden were intended for "gentlemen and men of ability" and up until the Great Fire of London in 1666, Covent Garden was the most fashionable London address to live at. You can find lots of activities in London for children in this area. Street performers like jugglers, acrobats and fire-eaters are here to entertain kids and shoppers. You may even spot a celebrity or two. You can also visit Royal Opera House - home to The Royal Opera and The Royal Ballet.

7. This interesting children event, if you can get free tickets, is to go for television and radio shows and be part of the studio audience. Exclusive tickets including Dancing on Ice, The X Factor, Britain's Got Talents, The BRIT Awards and many more can be obtained by applying early for them. Your kids will love to be a part of the studio audience and this will add to their children events experiences. You can also apply for standing room only tickets.

8. Children events can also include a visit to a city farm and your kids can enjoy a bit of rural life without leaving the city. These city farms are community led and managed projects and they are located all over London. They offer a widespread of activities to encourage kids to be part of a rural experience and learn how to look after animals and plants. Some farms may also have a riding school.

9. You can encourage your children to get involved in wildlife and nature. London has many natural areas bursting with wildlife. Get ideas for bird-watching or lend a hand gardening for wildlife. Take an opportunity to cycle amongst nature. There are lots of activities for your children to do in London Wildweb.

10. There are lots of sporting activities that goes on in London throughout the year and London's reputation for having some of the most prestigious sports venues in the world has attracted tourists from all over the world. With a London Pass you can take your kids for free to visit these famous London venues: Chelsea Football Club's Stamford Bridge, Lord's Cricket Ground, Twickenham Rugby Ground and Wimbledon Lawn Tennis. Your kids will have the chance to experience what it feels like to run out of the player's tunnel onto the pitch and imagine the excitement felt by the players as the crowd greets them with an almighty roar!

Running the English Football Leagues

English football (soccer) leagues season is considered the most coveted and most participated event in English Sports. It is participate by 140 leagues with more than 480 divisions. With quite a number of participants it is so confusing to understand how a single team in a certain division is able to rise to the Premiership as what they have called it.

The English football leagues are governed by a certain system that determines the movement of each team in a division into different levels in a league. It is best to fully understand the system that runs the entire leagues of the English Football in the United Kingdom, its framework and how it determines the promotion of a certain team. This system is called English Football League System (English Football Pyramid).

ChelseaFC

How does the system works?

Running the English Football Leagues

There are variations in the promotion of the teams between leagues or division. Meeting the criteria set by the higher league, especially having the appropriate facilities and finances, is the main basis of the promotion. Each top five levels must contain one division. Under the top five levels are levels that progressively have more parallel leagues. In some areas there are as many as twenty levels. However, the existence of leagues becomes sporadic at the lower levels.

The amateur version of the game commonly called by English locale as Sunday League Football is not part of the English league system because these leagues are independent sectors without promotion or relegation involved in the football pyramid. However, if the club already has its appropriate playing standard and suitable facilities, it can still apply to join the English Football League that comprises the football pyramid and is still subject for further evaluation and assessment by the EFL System committee.

How does the leagues being structured?

The League has four divisions with 92 clubs as its playing members. These 92 clubs are considered as the full-time professional clubs and they are commonly referred to as the "League" clubs. The "non-League" clubs are football teams that are already outside the bracket of the "League" clubs, although they have played most of their football in the league competition.

The segregation of the professional clubs from the non-league clubs helps us to easily determine which club is included in the top levels.

Which Team Will Win the Premier League in the Season 2008-2009?

Manchester United have recently been crowned Premier League champions in England. It is the tenth time that Sir Alex Ferguson has led United to this prestigious title, quite an achievement. T the team is now heading to Russia hoping to add the Champions league trophy by beating an in-form Chelsea. What about next season, who will end up as champions of the Premier League next year? Will it be Man Utd again, Chelsea, Arsenal or even Liverpool?

Liverpool have some amazing players. Steven Gerrard would get into any team in Europe and could have sealed a move to Chelsea a couple of years ago. He is a red through and through but at times must become frustrated with the rotation system that Benitez seems to insist on using. Rafa is a decent manager however this rotation system sure does annoy the fans.

Chelsea FootballClub

Arsenal are a superb team to watch, they play the game in the right way and have some silky players. Arsene Wenger is a great manager however a trip to Specsavers could well be of benefit. Football fans in the UK will understand what I mean! Arsenal just ran out of steam this season and I am sure Arsene had wished he had signed more players in January.

Which Team Will Win the Premier League in the Season 2008-2009?

Chelsea seem to have become a real team again under the guidance of Avram Grant but are very boring to watch. Despite having a number of English players I must say that they are a real turn off.

I personally believe that Manchester United will win the Premier League yet again. Rooney, Ronaldo and Tevez will be unstoppable.

I am also hoping that my team, Birmingham City, can win promotion back to the Premier League.

Chelsea

By the 1930's, millions of flowers were being sold around Sixth Avenue and Twenty-Eighth Street, including 500,000 Easter Lilies from Bermuda and 30,000 Tulips from Holland. As a major event, the third annual lunar New Year flower market starts with flowers, arts, performances, colors, fragrances and cultures.

Graeme Souness - Liverpool FC Legend

Graeme Souness signed for Liverpool from Middlesbrough in 1978, for a fee of £350,000, which was a record transfer fee between two English clubs at that time. Souness spent six glorious years at Liverpool where he won five League titles, three European Cups and four League Cups.

Souness quickly established himself in the Liverpool first team, fittingly scoring his first goal for the club in a victory against bitter rivals Manchester United, the goal was later voted Liverpool's best goal of the season.

Chelsea FC

As if scoring against United in only his second home game wasn't enough, Souness soon established himself as an Anfield favourite. His tough tackling, no-nonsense approach made him unpopular with opposing fans, but with an ice cool temperament, meant that the more hostile an environment, the better he played.

Graeme Souness - Liverpool FC Legend

Souness played a pivotal midfield role and was instrumental as Liverpool made history by becoming the first English team to retain the European cup in 1978, in fact it was Souness' pass to Kenny Dalglish that led to the winning goal in the final.

Continuing to be huge influence on the pitch, Souness was made Liverpool team captain in 1982, a season in which Liverpool again won the League Championship and the League Cup.

Souness enjoyed more illustrious seasons as Liverpool went on to win the League title for three years running, and he led Liverpool to a fourth European Cup final victory in 1984, as Liverpool completed the 'treble' which also included the League Championship and League Cup, Souness himself scored in the penalty shoot-out that secured the European cup against Roma.

Little did anyone know at the time of that famous European Cup victory, would be Graeme Souness' last game for Liverpool, leaving for Italian side Sampdoria, in a £650,000 transfer.

As a player, Souness was considered by many fans to be the best midfielder in football, and it would take Liverpool many years to find anyone as good. Souness later came back to manage Liverpool, but that's another story.
