Business From a Dog Raincoat

It was one rainy afternoon when Chelsea decided to make a dog raincoat for her pet, Mimi. She has no other choice but to stay home and to keep herself entertained, she decided to watch the movie Legally Blonde. She found it attractive to see Reese's pet clad in those girly fashionable dog dresses. And that is what inspired her to make clothes for her dog herself. And because it is a rainy season, she thought it might be useful to make Mimi some dog raincoats to keep her dry and warm when going out for a walk.

She searched her closet for her old raincoats so she can utilize it in making coats for Mimi. She also found it helpful to browse the internet for a pattern and for the instructions to follow. And in just few easy steps Chelsea already made a raincoat for her hairy friend. Making raincoats for her pet became one of her hobbies.

Chelsea

Chelsea's friends and neighbours cannot help but notice the dog raincoats that Mimi fashioned when she was out for a walk on a rainy day. Intrigued by what they saw, they asked where she bought those raincoats for dogs and were amazed to know that it was hand made by Chelsea. Soon enough she got requests from them to make them their pet raincoats, too. And this is where she started her business. Apart from making raincoats, she also got into making dog dresses that Mimi modelled. Other dog owners in the neighbourhood were influenced to dress up their pets in fashion as Mimi modelled them. Thus, Chelsea's business stated to boom.

Chelsea's pet clothes business was opened inspired by a movie. Aside from raincoats for dogs, she also expanded her business by making various other pet clothes such as dog sweaters, pajamas, booties and other dog accessories. And it was Chelsea who introduced dog fashion in their neighbourhood- a business that started out from making raincoats for dogs.

Watch Schalke vs Chelsea Live Online - UEFA Champions League Preview

Schalke might be trailing the other three teams in Group B, but they still have everything to play for as they welcome Chelsea to the Arena AufSchalke with a single point separating them from second position. For Chelsea, a victory would guaranteed a place in the knockout rounds if the result in the night's other group fixture goes their way.

With Chelsea rediscovering their winning form under new coach Avram Grant, the challenge for Schalke two weeks ago was already fraught with difficulties. Another blow came when Kevin Kuranyi was ruled out just before the start with a knee injury, and with only four minutes to go, goalkeeper Manuel Neuer committed a grave mistake that allowed Florent Malouda to score the opener.

Chelsea

Schalke second defeat in three games was confirmed when Didier Drogba blast a diving header into the net, though there were positives and Soren Larsen was unfortunate with a header that came back off an upright. Now Schalke must rediscover the form that enabled them to win away to Rosenborg BK on Matchday 2 as they look to improve on their previous two UEFA Champions League group campaigns in which they finished in fourth and third place.

There was a gap of 32 years before Schalke crossed swords with the English foes. It came in the first group stage of the 2001/02 UEFA Champions League when they beat Arsenal 3-1 at the Arena AufSchalke. It was the final group fixture and it could not prevent Schalke finishing in fourth place while the Gunners went into the contest knowing they had already qualified.
Chelsea approach this coming match knowing that a third successive group win would assure them of a place for the fifth successive season if Rosenborg secured a second victory away at Valencia.

Stuttgart were Chelsea's opponents in the 1997/98 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup final when Gianfranco Zola's goal in Stockholm was enough to give Chelsea the trophy for a second time.

Real Madrid Or Chelsea - Robihno's Choices to Continue Playing in Europe

The 24-year old Brazilian forward known as Robihno who plays for the Spaniard giant Real Madrid since mid 2005 has recently stated that he would like to consider the proposal made by the English Premier League team Chelsea before the start of this year's new season. Nevertheless, Robihno's time to negotiate with his current team and the English one is about to expire as a decision has to be reached by the end of the weekend.

Robihno's professional career began early in 2002 when he played for three consecutive years for the Brazilian team Santos totalling 44 goals in the 104 game participations. As of 2005 Robihno was transferred to the Real Madrid where he became an important part of the team's success especially during the 2007-08 Liga Season when Real Madrid won the championship.

Chelsea FootballClub

In order for the footballer to be able to be part of Chelsea's roster he will need to come to an agreement in terms of money with the Real Madrid as his contract is valid until 2010; the amount in question could be around 150m Euros or 119m British Pounds. It is well known the Brazilian has repeatedly stated his wish to play in England and leave the Spanish club as soon as possible.

On the other hand, the Liga club has announced that "the Real Madrid would never want to retain a player against his wishes and as a result they have no alternative but to accept his unilateral decision to rescind his contract - if that is what the player wants."

Two of the major reasons for Robihno's discomfort and deep wish to leave the Real Madrid are the facts that he recently became aware the club was negotiating his sell to another club in order to gather all the required funds to buy Cristiano Ronaldo's contract before the starting of the season and that he could not participate as part of his Brazilian National Squad neither help them as his request to participate in the Olympic Games was refused.

Chelsea's coach Luiz Felipe Scolari was the first to contact Robihno during the first days of the month of August and to his surprise he received very positive feedback from the Brazilian forward and from that point on the transfer saga has become the daily news in the football world. It is very clear Robihno does not want to be part of the Real Madrid anymore and he should be able to freely move to another club where he feels his game and efforts are more appreciated.

There have been reports that Chelsea's bid could be around 19m to 30m British Pounds to get Real Madrid's permission release signed. But now another issue has awaken which is to whether the Spaniard club should let go of the player or not, as the player is known for his exception skills and capability on the football field. The acquirement of Robihno would certainly be a gain for Chelsea as he will make an excellent pair with Deco who is already part of the Chelsea's players list while for the Real Madrid will be an open spot - a very difficult to be replaced within only a few days time.

Premier League Review - Manchester United Storm To The Top

Manchester United stormed to the top of the Premier League as they scored seven goals against a hapless Blackburn Rovers side at Old Trafford. United who were second to Chelsea only by goal difference were ahead after only 72 seconds of the game and 3-0 in front by half time. Dimitar Berbatov scored five goals, as he equalised the Premiership record for the total goals scored in one match. Blackburn scored a late consolation goal, as the 7-1 victory now sees United lead the Premier league by two points, and having significantly increased their goal difference. United are now unbeaten in 15 league games this season, their best league start since 1985.

Chelsea were again disappointing as they could only manage a 1-1 draw at Newcastle United in Saturdays evening game. The Blues have now dropped 11 points out of a possible 15 after only winning one of their last five Premier League games. Chelsea's Alex awful back pass gifted Andy Carroll an early Christmas present as he put Newcastle 1-0 in front after only five minutes, Salomon Kalou scored a deflected equaliser before half time. Chelsea enjoyed a better second half, but the goals that were flowing earlier in the season now seem to have deserted them.

Chelsea FootballClub

Arsenal secured a 4-2 victory over Aston Villa despite a spirited fight back from the hosts. After conceding a two goal lead the previous week against Spurs, which ended in a 3-2 home defeat. Arsenal looked impressive, but must certainly tighten up their defence if they are to pose a serious challenge for the league title this season.

Tottenham staged another amazing come back after trailing at home to Liverpool. Aaron Lennon scored two minutes into injury time as they beat the Reds 2-1, after Martin Skrtel had first scored for his own team and then scored an own goal to level the score. Jermain Defoe also missed a penalty for Tottenham who are now in 6th place. It is now the fifth time this season Spurs have trailed in a game and fought back to win.

Manchester City dropped more points as an injury-time goal from Matthew Etherington ensured a point for Stoke in a very closely contested game, City remain in 4th place, five points adrift of leaders Manchester United.

In the other games, West Ham secured three much needed points with a 3-1 victory over Wigan, which eases the pressure on under-fire manager Avram Grant, West Ham remain bottom of the league, however, as Wolves secured a 3-2 victory against Sunderland.

Everton are left just two points above the drop zone, after a 1-4 home mauling by West Bromwich Albion, Everton now face Chelsea in an away game next week.

December now looks to be a pivotal month in the Premier League as United, Arsenal and Chelsea all play each other and the results could decide who are the front runners for the League title as the Premiership race enters the New Year.

Football Popularity

Football is the most popular sport in the world; in South America, Brasilia, France, U.K people play football, visit football matches, watch football games on TV and discuss them with friends and read updated football news. The games of elite football groups attract thousands of people. For instance, the capacity of Salt Lake Stadium in India is 120,000 people, and of Beaver Stadium in U.S.A - 107,282 people. In World Championship the stadiums are often full, and many people don't manage to get tickets in time.

FIFA includes 208 different national federations. Many countries consider football a part of their national heritage, and refer to football games as to representative of the country's national ideas. Football fans create special magazine, which presents latest football news and events, such as transfers of the players, and of season, changing of managers and coaches et cetera. Publishers and editors of fanzines often receive no financial compensation; fanzines are often distributed free of charge or for nominal cost only.

Chelsea Football Club

Football popularity often leads to rivalry, which sometimes develops into hooliganism. Fights between supporters of different teams usually occur after football matches. Sometimes football rivalry brings to tragedy on stadiums. At the mass brawl in May 2007, hundred Liverpool fans fought each other in Athens, hoping to get a ticket for the game. Another tragic event took place at the Hillsborough stadium on April 15, 1989, causing the death of 96 people. The unprecedented influx of fans through a narrow tunnel leading to the stadium has caused a major crush.

Football has always maintained a foothold in the fans' enthusiasm. Most of the largest stadiums in the world are used for football, because of its enormous popularity. One of the main interest in this sport is the football transfer rumours part. Raising awareness of the violence among football fans might help to reduce the danger of tragedies and save the rightfully owned popularity of the game.

The History of Barcelona V Real Madrid

Football is full of professional rivalries - Liverpool Vs Everton, Manchester United Vs Man. City, Arsenal Vs Tottenham, however none of them are arguably as explosive as games between Barcelona and Real Madrid. Whenever the two teams meet, the match even has its own name - El Clasico - and is billed as one of the most exciting matches to watch in the world.

Like many professional rivalries in sport, the Barcelona/Real Madrid animosity stems from a general competition between the two cities. During the Civil War, Madrid was an ally of General Franco, where as Barcelona was more tied to its Catalan roots and resented Franco's attempted control. They had their reasons - Franco was determined to unify the country and therefore quash Barcelona's traditions and independence, including trying to wipe out its local language - Castilian Spanish.

Chelsea FC

During the Civil War, Barcelona was even told to deliberately lose a game against Madrid on Franco's orders. They took this to the extreme and lost 11-1. Officials were so incensed, that the Barcelona team was fined and suspended. This started the beginning of the rivalry and saw Real Madrid seize the lead, wining five European Cup titles.

Real Madrid became the most respected and well known team on the planet until 1961 when Barcelona fought back with a vengeance, knocking Madrid out of the European Cup tournament. This took the rivalry to a whole new level.

Barcelona also refuse certain commercial aspects that other teams utilise, such as sponsorship and other 'money-grabbing' schemes. The fact that Real Madrid do so, is also seen as sticking it to the opposition, who Barcelona see as selling out, as opposed to them being a 'sporting club' in it for the glory.

Today, when players move between the teams, the newspapers make an event of it. In 2000, Luis Figo moved from Barcelona to Real Madrid for a record transfer fee, but as a result incurred the wrath of fans who let their displeasure be known by throwing rubbish (and even a pig's head at him) during matches.

While the rivalry is a symbiotic relationship, with both teams needing each other to make the headlines and drawing the crowds, the rivalry is as strong as even. Both teams are members of the G14 group - a collective of the 14 most powerful football teams on the planet, and whenever the two teams meet for a match, it is always a sell out event with millions of others tuning in to watch the clash.

Liverpool FC Getting Used to Mediocrity?

There was a time in the not too distant past when a trip to Anfield was regarded by every opposing fan as a highly stressful affair where coming away with a point was a moral victory. In those days English football drew most of its talent from the home countries and that was true of management as well. Liverpool had a succession of strong managers who created a legacy of winning which, today, weighs heavily like a millstone around the necks of players and supporters alike. They have in recent years tasted limited success under the tutelage of Rafe Benitez, but his failure to secure the premiership and their general lack of consistency has been his ultimate undoing.

English football has undergone a major revolution since the advent of Sky TV and their millions. Suddenly the world's best saw the premiership as the place to play. It is no coincidence that the last Liverpool title win in the 1989-90 season was the first year that Sky began broadcasting as BSkyB. It was their inability to adapt to the new era in football that has seen them lagging behind Manchester United, Arsenal and latterly Chelsea. In effect Liverpool's intransigence and unwillingness to change has seemingly meant that they have missed the boat. Now their past success has become a point of ridicule by, in particular, Manchester United fans who had to stand by as title after title headed towards Anfield in the seventies and eighties.

Chelsea Football Club

Today Liverpool were beaten by their arch rivals Everton and they sit humiliatingly at the foot of the table with West Ham and Wolves. This has been the worst start to the season for the Reds for 57 years and has made the task of lifting the players and the club a daunting task for incumbent manager Roy Hodgson. Matters off the field regarding the ownership of Liverpool FC Limited have also added to the unsettling atmosphere at the club. It begs the question whether a club floundering at the foot of the premiership can possibly hold on to world class talent like Fernando Torres and Steven Gerrard? In the case of Gerrard he could not be blamed if he decided to move on from a club he has shown great, yet fruitless, loyalty to over many years. It just goes to show that nothing is forever. No club has the right to be at the top and they certainly cannot use the past as a sign of pedigree. You are only as good as your last result and Liverpool lost 2-0 to the club from across the city. Judging by their current league position the only way is up for the Reds. I wish them well.

Ronaldo the Phenomenon

He may not be the fittest player of all time but he has certainly cemented his name in the history books as one of greatest players football has ever seen. He was born in Bento Ribeiro, a poor neighborhood in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Like many of his friends, he began to play football in the streets of his neighborhood knowing that his only way out of his poverty was to play football and become a professional player, little did he know that he will not only become a professional player but one the best professional players of all time in this sport.

Ronaldo Luis Nazário de Lima (born September 18, 1976), is a Brazilian professional footballer who plays as a striker for the Italian Serie A club AC Milan. He has been nicknamed as "The Phenomenon" due to his unique style and flawless technique which made him score at will and was able to execute moves which were not seen before. Pelé named him one of the 125 greatest living footballers in March 2004. In 2007 France Football named him in their best starting 11 of all time.

Chelsea FootballClub

Ronaldo has enjoyed success at the international level as well, he won the 1994 and 2002 FIFA World Cups with Brazil.

Ronaldo has won three FIFA World Player of the Year awards (1996, 1997, 2002). He and former Real Madrid teammate Zinedine Zidane are the only two men to have won the award three times with Ronaldinho behind them with 2.

Ronaldo for me has been the most unlucky player of all time as well. Had it not been for his injuries, he would have crossed the legends we now know in Pele and Maradonna. No wonder why Jose Mourinho in his time at Chelsea once stated "Ronaldo was a better player than Maradonna in 1998-19993. This statement really ratified so to say, in authenticating Ronaldo's status as truly one of the greats of the game. Yet, he has not been given the recognition he deserves for the services he has given to football. Ronaldo really is a God's gift to football.

Ronaldo - The Master

People now a days talk about Cristiano Ronaldo as being the maestro in the midfield taking on players at will. I tell people to watch the real Ronaldo's archive videos and only then they would be able to realize what a talent Ronaldo was at his peak and before that as well. His peak, that never came actually as he got injured during the best years of his career and had he played in those years, only God knows what sort of records he would have made, I think he would have at the least broken every single record in the champions league, World Cups and all the league's he played in.

He could have won the World Player Of the Year at least 3 to 4 more times if he had remained fit during his mid 20's which would have taken him to the very top of hall of fame. Its just a shame how Ronaldo's career is taking its final steps as he continues to struggle to keep himself fit to play and show the world once again that there is only one Ronaldo and that is Ronaldo of Brazil.

Saying Ronaldo... is to say goal. And to talk about spectacular goals, bursting sprints and indescribable executions, is to talk about Ronaldo, no one has scored more goals in the world cups than him in history. Born in one of the poorest neighborhoods of the Brazilian capital, many say that the best forward in the world with a ball at his feet is Ronaldo. But it was never easy due to all the injuries he had and his personal life which was filled with controversies.

At 14 he was on the point of playing for Flamengo, but he didn´t have the money to pay the four bus ticket needed to go from his home to the club. Nevertheless, glory was waiting for him around the corner. At only 19 years of age, and playing in the lineup of PSV, he was elected by FIFA's best player in the world and at such an early age he showcased his potential at the highest level when he moved to barcelona the following year.

After that he never looked back and went from strength to strength and now although he many not be in his best form right now but Ronaldo has achieved everything there is to achieve in football and still at 31 who knows, what more magic has he got up his sleeve. He is going toward the twilight of his career now and I really hope that he can finish it with one last boom like Zidane did in the World Cup.

Preview of Chelsea's 08-09 Season

Chelsea's last campaign offered a telling commentary on the high stakes of modern top-flight football and the narrowness of the margin between success and perceived failure. For the Blues it was a season dominated by a generally unloved manager's attempt to take the team beyond where his adored predecessor had led them.

Following Jose Mourinho at Stamford Bridge was always going to be the tallest of orders but anyone other than Avram Grant, with any boss other than Roman Abramovich, would probably have been lauded for taking Chelsea so close to treble glory. Beaten in extra-time of the Carling Cup final; edged out by two points in the Premier League title race despite accumulating 85 points (the first time a team had gathered so many without securing the title); and beaten in a penalty shoot-out after extra-time in the Champions League final - Grant's stab at footballing immortality with the Blues was heroic.

Chelsea Football Club

But it was failure nonetheless, and his reward - after being doubted, derided, and damned with faint praise - was the sack, within a couple of days of John Terry's kick hitting the post in the Moscow shoot-out to hand Manchester United the coveted European crown.

Chelsea had lost only two Premier League games out of 32 under Grant - his first, against United at Old Trafford, and then against Arsenal at Ashburton Grove. In the critical later stages of the season the Blues beat both the Gunners and United at Stamford Bridge - and indeed they kept the title race against Sir Alex Ferguson's side alive until the final day of the campaign, which said much for their determination and consistency.

They were relentless in their pursuit of the title, overhauling Arsenal at the end of March to go second and coming within a whisker of overtaking the defending champions. But two dropped points in a home draw against Wigan, for whom Emile Heskey scored a 91st minute equaliser on 14th April, proved costly, although United's significantly better goal difference was always worth an extra point if push had come to shove.

That reflected the Achilles' heel of Grant's side: they played without the attacking flair and panache of United or Arsenal, and in fact scored fewest goals among the top four. Although they kept a remarkable 21 clean sheets at the other end, Abramovich had demanded 'expansive' football after Mourinho, but got more of the same prosaic, pragmatic stuff under Grant. Without being able to lace that with silverware, or to win over a sceptical home crowd, Grant was always on borrowed time. Speculation about his future, which reached fever pitch after the Carling Cup final defeat by London rivals Tottenham and an embarrassing FA Cup quarter-final defeat by Barnsley, was a constant accompaniment to Grant's reign.

His team showed character and resilience, especially defensively, but often struggled for creativity and goals, with Didier Drogba netting only eight in the League, and January import Nicolas Anelka managing only one, though he was mostly played out of position. Dynamic central midfielder Michael Essien also spent too much time filling in at right-back, while the manager failed to get anything like the best out of expensive summer buy Florent Malouda. There was a consequent over-reliance on midfielders Frank Lampard (who had his own injury and personal problems last season) and Michael Ballack (who emerged as the Blues' most influential player in the final third of the campaign). Their goals and dynamism helped take Chelsea so close to the glittering prizes, though it was symptomatic that pundits and many fans felt their contribution was despite rather than because of Grant's leadership. That was the burden the Israeli's perceived lack of charisma saddled him with.

Summer Activity

The managerial soap opera at Stamford Bridge was ended when Grant was unceremoniously sacked, and his successor announced during Euro 2008 as Portugal boss Luiz Felipe Scolari. The Brazilian comes in with everything Grant lacked: gravitas, a hugely impressive CV, charisma, the authority that accompanies a reputation as a disciplinarian, and the respect of the players. Scolari is, after all, a World Cup winner who also won the Copa Libertadores twice.

If there are reservations because he has been out of club football for seven years, the risk seems a small one. The 59-year-old has been there and done it before, and if dealing with the English tabloid press is an aspect of his new job that probably won't appeal, he is unlikely to find it more uncomfortable than dealing with the media in his native Brazil.

Scolari is the fourth Chelsea manager of the Abrasmovich era; the previous three - Claudio Ranieri, Mourinho and Grant - were all sacked despite delivering what at most clubs would pass for relative success. So Scolari knows what to expect, and what is expected: to recapture the Premier League title from United and to win the Champions League for the first time in Chelsea's history. The other imperative is to achieve both through an exhilarating brand of entertaining, attacking football. Simple really. The key question is: can Scolari adjust to the demands of club football quickly and effectively enough to deliver what's required in his first season back at the coal-face?

He has got off to a decent start. Drogba and Lampard, both widely tipped to join Mourinho at Inter Milan, are still at the Bridge and seem likely to stat for at least the next season. Portugal full-back Jose Bosingwa, well-known to Scolari, was recruited and waiting for him, and another familiar face, the creative and motivated Deco, has since arrived. Speculation persists that Robinho could yet join them, and that would certainly strengthen their attacking options and sharpen the goal threat, where the Blues were deficient last season. The fans would probably feel happier to have an additional quality striker on board, unless the form of Andriy Shevchenko and Claudio Pizarro has undergone a dramatic transformation over the summer.

As for the departures, Claude Makelele's return to France should be adequately covered by the emergence of John Obi Mikel in the holding midfield role, while Steve Sidwell, good player though he is, was never really used so won't be missed. Nor will the transfers of Tal Ben Haim (Manchester City) and Khalid Boulahrouz (Stuttgart) leave gaping holes in Scolari's forces.

Pre-season has been useful if tiring: the goodwill trip to China and Malaysia was excellent PR but possibly of only limited value to Scolari in terms of preparation. But going on to Moscow for the Railways Cup offered a more pertinent test and, losing another shoot-out in the Russian capital aside, Chelsea can reflect on last weekend with satisfaction. The emphatic 5-0 demolition of AC Milan will have caused many to sit up and take notice, as will Anelka's four-goal salvo in the rout.

Scolari has said he is more or less clear now in his head about what his starting XI will be for the Premier League opener against Portsmouth, so at least one of the main objectives of pre-season has been accomplished.

Analysis & Prognosis

There will be huge interest in how well and how quickly Scolari fits into his new job. He will have the benefit of the doubt, something Grant never enjoyed; but there will still be the spectre of Mourinho, who won the Premier League and the League Cup in his first season at the Bridge after arriving from Portugal. The parallels are there for direct comparison. His press conferences promise to be entertaining, but it is on the pitch where the entertainment quotient will be most under scrutiny.

The addition of Bosingwa should add genuine right-sided quality to an already formidable defence, behind which Petr Cech is due a bit of luck after a miserable spell, so Chelsea will again be one of the hardest teams to score against.

And in midfield they have a veritable cornucopia of riches. With Essien restored to the centre where he is at his best, Ballack in the sort of form he showed during the latter stages of last season and at Euro 2008, Deco's vision adding a new creative dimension to Chelsea's game and Lampard fit and focused, Mikel offering running power and muscle, plus the likes of Joe Cole, Shaun Wright-Phillips and Malouda to provide pace and width on the flanks, Scolari's challenge will be to find the right blend and balance while keeping all his stars happy.

Anelka fired a warning in Moscow and Scolari may be prepared to play to his strengths, through the middle, at Drogba's expense in a way Grant hesitated to do. The fact that Drogba is likely to miss the start of the campaign through injury could facilitate that decision. Salomon Kalkou impressed last season but too often chose the wrong option with his final ball, so we can expect an improvement there.

Scolari has indicated that Shevchenko will not be in the starting line-up, at least initially, but the Ukrainian has said he is determined to make an impact at Chelsea and if he is fired up rather than diffident when coming off the bench then he'll give his manager a useful option.

Chelsea are certain to challenge hard for the title, and with their squad strength in depth and seemingly impregnable home record they are likely to be in the top few places for most of the campaign. They have the playing resources and now, they hope, the right manager to win major honours again. But much will also depend on United, Arsenal and Liverpool, at least, so how Scolari reacts to the Big Four challenge, and how he plots his tactics in the head-to-heads, could prove decisive.

I expect the Blues to be challenging on all fronts until the latter stages, and possibly collecting a cup; but winning the Premier League title at Scolari's first attempt, after being out of the club game for a long time, might just prove a bridge too far. A top-three finish then, but not first place.

Wholesale Hats - A Secret Ingredient

Wholesale hats flow out to retailers across the States and around the globe. What is so intriguing about wholesale hats that stock the retail shops? Why can't customers pass them by without trying them on, even it is only for fun?

Wholesale hats provide personality, individualism, and character. Yes, but we already know that. The deeper attraction is identification with heroes. Hats define so many heroes and retailers provide the statement that helps the common person identify with the heroes in their lives. Before you write this off as a plug for wholesale hats, read on and see if your heroes aren't here.

Chelsea Fanclub

First there's the cowboy hat. These wholesale hats reach every age group. The older generation remembers John Wayne, Marshal Matt Dillon, and Captain Gus from Lonesome Dove. Maybe their interests go deeper to historical figures like Wild Bill Hickok, Wyatt Earp, or Buffalo Bill. The hat that dominates this look is the creation of John B Stetson who defined cowboy hats with his original design that he named "Boss of the Plains". This wide brim felt with a high creased crown replaced the mix match of hats cowboys wore up until then and reached such popularity that Stetson was making over two million hats a year by 1886. This was the hat nearly every cowboy mentioned above wore and the style their admirers want today.

These are the heroes and cowboy hats that appeal to middle age and up, but what about the young? They have another set of heroes you find on MTV or in country music. When J-Lo and Britney Spears showed up in rolled straw cowboy hats a rage swept the country for this headwear. Do you think rolled straw cowboy hats on Willy Nelson and even more current, Kenny Chesney and Jessica Simpson don't effect what their fans wear? Quite the contrary! Country music fans are big into the cowboy hats that look good on their idols.

Now what about the golfers? By the early 20th century, this sport so captivated public interest that the Sears & Roebuck catalog had pages of golf hats that looked like oversized newsboys. For Ben Hogan it was this or an ivy cap. Sam Snead was a fedora man and Greg Norman put the Aussie on the world map. How many seniors do you see on the golf course wearing the hat that made their favorite golfer look good? The connection between headwear and heroes seems to run so deep you never outgrow it.

The sports connection with hats doesn't end there. Baseball caps need no introduction. This is the hat that everybody feels comfortable wearing today. When every man wore a fedora with his suit in the forties and fifties, all-stars like Ted Williams, Stan Musial, and Mickey Mantle were looking good in their ball caps and had a huge fan club. By the sixties fedoras were tossed aside and the cool headwear was ball caps. Since then ball caps haven't missed a lick.

The there's football fans. Coach Bear Bryant at Alabama and Tom Landry of the Dallas Cowboys probably inspired more guys to wear herringbone or houndstooth fedoras than all the advertising of Madison Avenue.

Next comes the movies that are always delivering a fresh batch of heroes. Indiana Jones is back at the theaters and even Cracker Barrel restaurants are selling adult size Indiana Jones fedoras. And the Great Gatsby? Fans go for the oversized ivy cap. Don't forget Rocky in his porkpie. For the women, Angelina Jolie fans will have to have a cloche after they see The Changeling. Movies make a huge impact on hats and fashion in general.

Then there's the vintage crowd and those that remember hats that mom and dad or grandma and grandpa wore. This stuff is soaked in happy childhood memories that wholesale hats revive-fedoras for men from the forties or fifties, pillboxes for ladies from the same era. What about those old family photos with cloches? When anyone sees a hat that rings a bell with childhood memories, they have to comment, they have to try it on, and often they have to buy it.

OK, kids don't know anything about these hats, but they sure know celebrities. Think this doesn't provide heroes that wholesale hats fulfill? You know it does-J-Lo's wide brim floppy hat, Hillary Duff's ivy cap, Britney's fedora, or Brad Pitt's newsboy. Here's a wholesale hat market that goes on, and on, and on like the pink bunny.

So why do some of the wholesale hats that ship to wholesalers blow out while others hardly sell? Take cowboy hats in 2007. Many wholesalers as well as retail shops sold more cowboy hats in 2007 than any other style. Yet department stores reported cowboy hats as their worst performer in headwear. It comes back to knowing your market and playing to them. You wouldn't expect the shopper searching for Ives St Laurent to be trying on rolled straw cowboy hats. By the same token, trendy shops catering to the young waste space displaying dress hats. Hats have to fit the market and relate to the heroes of that age group.

Somehow hats, more than any other accessory, help the average person take on the aura of bigger than life personalities that touch them. Often conscious, sometimes sub-conscious, the consumer gravitates to the hats that identify them with their heroes.

Soccer Coaching Licenses - Discover The Best Ones To Get

There are so many different soccer coaching licenses that you can get to enhance your chances of getting a great job. In this article, I'll tell you which are the best.

Probably you are a big fan of soccer (or football as it is known in most of the world) already. But it's not enough to just be a fan of the beautiful game, you need to prove your worth in other ways. Luckily there are some industry recognised soccer coaching certificates that you can add to your armory.

Chelsea FootballClub

There are really only two tracks that you need to choose from. One is the U.S. track and the other is the European track. Both are recognised worldwide but I would say that the European badges just edge it so, even if you live in the US, you might want to choose to do the European ones.

The U.S. badges are given out by the United States Soccer Federation. They are graded in different levels so you can start light and get the basics so that you can teach kids. Of course, to coach soccer, anyone can do it - but it is the soccer schools and then the clubs that demand the badges - this is why you need them.

Luckily the basic badges are easy to get. Then when you qualify for one, you can aim for the next one, all while still getting experience. Eventually you progress from the Youth license to the C, B and A which is the top level.

In Europe, the situation is slightly different. UEFA, the governing body of European football dish out the top tier of licenses - I'll come to them shortly. But national bodies will give you the lower level badges.

So in England, for instance, the Football Association will allow you to take the Level 1 and Level 2 soccer coaching qualifications. Especially the Level 1 is really easy and you need no experience to do it. Just having it on your resume is a great way of showing that you are serious about coaching as a career.

After that, UEFA allow you to take the "B" badge (also known as Level 3), the "A" badge and then the "Pro" badge. This last badge was recently made compulsory for all pro managers in Europe - yes, even the best have to take an exam! If you want to become the next Alex Ferguson then you should eventually aim to take this badge.

Soccer Backgrounds

Soccer backgrounds are already widespread. They are another attractive feature of the most popular and profitable sport on earth. An interestingly increasing number of sponsorships to the sport prevails and even gets better each year. Professional football players are normally being given millions of ad contracts by soccer merchandise firms. With the ever growing number of advertisers and sponsors of football, it continues to maintain its position as the most watched contact sport in the whole world.

The football game is a great source of enjoyment and entertainment to every soccer enthusiast or follower. The greatest form of sport entertainment is perhaps the World Cup which takes place every four years. During a World Cup season, football followers crowd the venues in order to witness festive football games that never fail to make them dance, yell, cheer, and fight for their very own national club. The exceptional and overwhelming popularity of the sport can be mainly attributed to the high level of faithfulness of the fans and enthusiasts from all corners of the earth. Football is undoubtedly the greatest and most followed game today and will continue to dominate in the many years to come.

France, Brazil, Ireland, Italy, and England are a few of the countries that consider soccer as a way of life. They are regular participants in the World Cup and can provide breathtaking ball games to the millions of viewers all over the world.

Bruce Grobbelaar - Liverpool FC Legend

Bruce Grobbelaar spent nearly fourteen years at Liverppol, and will probably be remembered for his eccentricities on the pitch as well as his great goalkeeping skills, the fact remains that he won six League titles, three FA Cups, three League Cups and famously one European Cup in 1984.

Born in 1957 in Zimbabwe, South Africa, Grobberlaar was signed from North America side Vancouver Whitecaps for 250,000 in March 1981 by then manager Bob Paisley. Within months of signing he secured a regular first team place after Liverpool goalkeeping legend Ray Clemence signed for Tottenham Hotspur.

Chelsea FC

An amazing 310 consecutive appearances for Liverpool over five seasons then followed, although it wasn't all plain sailing. Some erratic performances and errors, for which Grobberlaar took the blame, saw Liverpool languishing in the mid-table of the first division and seemingly out of the title race, however a dramatic resurgence at the turn of the year saw Liverpool win the league title during his first season at the club, as well as beating Tottenham in the League Cup final.

The Liverpool fans soon warmed to Grobbelaar, he showed superb reflexes as a goalkeeper and had great natural ability, always vocal, he displayed a great command of his penalty area and would often be seen berating his defenders, often described as flamboyant he was also renowned for his eccentric moments, punching the ball when it could easily have been caught, or catching the ball with just one hand rather than two. He was renowned for his long throws and dribbling the ball up the pitch or even running up the pitch to contest a header in the centre circle. Heart stopping one minute, and making breath taking saves the next, he would always keep the crowd on their toes, and even entertained the fans by doing handstands on the pitch while the ball was in play.

One of Bruce Grobbelaar's most famous moments was during the 1984 European Cup final penalty shoot-out he wobbled his legs in 'mock terror' before the penalty kicks were taken, many believe this made two of the Milan players totally miss their penalty kicks, as Liverpool went on to win the trophy.

When Liverpool signed David James, there was greater competition for the goalkeepers jersey, and after two very competitive seasons, in 1994 Bruce Grobbelaar finally left Liverpool after making 628 appearances for the club, for whatever reason, he will never be forgotten.

Old Trafford - Manchester United's Theatre of Dreams

Old Trafford Football Ground is located at - Sir Matt Busby Way, Old Trafford, Manchester. Sir Matt Busby Way was created in 1993, and was formerly known as Warwick Road North.

The ground's nickname is the Theatre Of Dreams.

Chelsea FootballClub

Old Trafford has been Manchester United's home since 1910, with the exception of an eight-year period from 1941 to 1949, when it was bombed in the second world war. During that period United played their 'home' games at the ground of their rivals, Manchester City - at a financial cost of course. They had to pay City for the privilege consisting of a flat fee, and a gate percentage.

Old Trafford's current capacity is over 76,000. It's hoped that in time it will expand even further to 90,000 with greater capacity in the South Stand.

The ground has frequently hosted FA Cup semi-final matches as a neutral venue and several England international fixtures while the new Wembley Stadium was under construction. Before Wembley Stadium was built in 1923 the FA Cup Finals were played around the country, with Old Trafford hosting several of these.

Manchester United were formerly called Newton Heath, but it was decided in 1909 to build a new stadium. Designed by Scottish architect Archibald Leitch, the ground featured seating in the south stand under cover, while the remaining three stands were uncovered terraces.

In 1965 the old roof pillars were replaced with modern-style cantilevering on top of the roof, allowing all spectators a completely unobstructed view. This was an important step, as the World Cup was to be staged in the UK in the following year, 1966. Old Trafford was one of the venues used for the tournament.

By the 1980's the capacity had dropped to around 60,000 due to all the improvements in the ground. The capacity dropped still further in 1990, when the Taylor Report recommended, for safety reasons, and with the Government's agreement, that all stadia be converted to all-seaters.

Old Trafford's most recent expansion, which took place between July 2005 and May 2006, saw an increase of around 8,000 seats with the addition of second tiers to both the north-west and north-east sections of the ground.

Further redevelopments saw United buy up additional land round about.

The Old Trafford pitch is now surrounded by four covered all-seater stands, officially known as the North, East, South and West Stands. The West End is the 'Stretford End' where the diehard, most vocal, United fans sit.

On 29 May 2008, to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Manchester United's first European Cup title, a statue of the club's old stars of George Best, Denis Law and Bobby Charlton, entitled "The United Trinity", was unveiled across Sir Matt Busby Way from the East Stand.

The ground continues to break attendance records. The newer Emirates Stadium, home of Arsenal FC, has a lower capacity, just over 60,000. Only one football ground has a higher capacity than the Theatre of Dreams, and that's at the new Wembley Stadium in London.

Manchester United supporters have an insatiable appetite for watching their team play. It seems that however big the ground gets, the seats will almost always be filled. That's what success on the pitch does for this wonderful game, and this glorious team that is Manchester United.

Who Wants to Buy Liverpool Football Club

George Gillett and Tom Hicks are the current owners of the reputable Liverpool Football club, which of course I home to our very own, Steven Gerrard. The two owners could possibly see the once in a lifetime opportunity of a Football Club investment, clearly go down the pan.

The current financial meltdown on a worldwide scale has pushed the Royal Bank of Scotland to start pressuring the two owners, George Gillett and Tom Hicks, to repay their initial loan of £350m, which was used to purchase the club a while back.

Chelsea FootballClub

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum the rulers in Dubai have had a keen interest in Liverpool Football Club for the past couple of years, which eventually led to them placing an offer of £500m not so long ago, which was of course, denied. Maybe the two owners are wishing they had accepted the offer!

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum have now expressed that they are not in a position or interested in buying the club anymore, although the offer of £350m may tempt them back into the bidding race, a full £150m below what they previously offered.
The uncertainty behind the Liverpool team could have devastating effects and could see them in financial ruin in the long term.

The current owners have decided not to release details on their current financial situation or future plans of the Club. This being said, investment analysts are in a strong position to suggest that the club will be sold off, and they'll be no problem finding a buyer, its just a case of at what price!

Josep Guardiola - World's Best Soccer Coach

The name Josep Guardiola I. Sala may not have made much impression on so many people years ago, but today it is the name on the lips of every soccer follower. Success, they say, has many friends. His records at FC Barcelona have brought him fame and recognition.

Guardiola's record has shown that it is not until one has had decades of experience that one could achieve a feat. I am by no means encouraging mediocrity but I wish to say that one should be given an opportunity to prove oneself if there are prospects. Before now Josep Guardiola had not coached any football team except Barcelona team B which he handled between 2007 and 2008.

Chelsea FC

Coach Josep Guardiola I. Sala was born on the 18th January 1971 in Santpedor, Spain. He rose up to be a defensive midfielder having started his career at about the age of 13. He played for the Spanish U-21 team (1991-92), Spanish U-23 team (1991-92), the national team (1992-2001) scoring 5 goals with 47 caps and Catalonia team (1995-2005) with 7 caps.

He had a very successful club career having played for FC Barcelona (1990-2001), Brescia (2001-2002), Roma (2002-2003), Brescia (2003), Al-Ahli (2003-2005) and Sinaloa (2005-2006) scoring great goals during his campaigns. Apart for playing for clubs he had some individual awards in his playing days which include: Won gold for Spain at the Barcelona 92 Olympics, Olympics Spain best player 1992, won UEFA Champions' league with FC Barcelona in 1991-92, Bravo award 1992, and UEFA All star team 1992 and 2000.

Guardiola's first coaching job was with Barca team B (2007-2008), winning their Tercera Division group and qualified for the 2008 Segunda division B playoffs. He finally became the coach of Barceloa in 2008. In 2008/2009 season he won 6 trophies for his club- Laliga 2008-09, Copa del Rey 2009, SuperCopa de Espana 2009, UEFA Champions' league 2008-09, UEFA Super cup 2009 and FIFA Club World Cup 2009. He won virtually all the titles that were available. I really don't know of any coach that has achieved this great feat; at least not in this decade.

His personal honours as a coach include: IFFHS World's Best club coach of the year 2009, Don Balon Award for Best coach of the year 2009, Onze d'Or for Best European coach 2009, Miguel Munoz trophy for Best Coach of the year 2009, World Soccer award for Best coach of the year 2009, and UEFA team of the year for Best coach of the year 2009. What was left for other coaches to claim? This kind of record is not for a non-experienced coach (as some would want to call him), considering he was barely one year as coach of Barca. Josep Guardiola still keeps adding to his records; he has not lost any match in the Spanish Laliga this season. We all salute you and say more power to your elbow Coach Josep Guardiola I. Sala.

Famous Brands of UK That Are Now Owned by Foreigners

A brand is strongly linked with its country of origin. As more logo designs are being produced for corporate entities, people are becoming nationalistic when it comes to selecting products and services. The people in UK are particularly brand conscious and usually favor British brands over their overseas counterparts.

If we take a look at fashion brands, the people in UK still fancy wearing British brands to display a sense of patriotism. This is why many businesses have modified their brand package design to be in harmony with the country they work in. There have been several amalgamations, acquisition and takeovers of British brands that were severely criticized and are still detested by the people of UK. The most recent was the Cadbury takeover by Kraft.

Following are 15 UK brands that are now under foreign ownership:

Transfer Rumours in January 2011 Predicted to Make Headline News

The forthcoming January 2011 Premier League football transfers are expected to make news with clubs like Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea looking for big name signings in order to compete with the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid in the Champions League and of course to get their hands on the Premier League title.

Transfer rumours get football fans talking like nothing else with gossip, speculation and in lots of cases, total nonsense. Premier League managers keep their cards tight to their chest regarding players they are looking to snap up in the transfer window and this January will be no different. Here we look at why transfer signings are such big news in the English Premier League.

Chelsea FC

Players like Weisley Schneider, Fernando Torres and Karim Benzema are bound to be on the list of players these managers would love to sign for their club in January. There's always negotiations taking place behind the scenes involving players clubs and agents. These talks are usually tentative approaches which are strictly off the record but many of these discussions are leeked and make the news. Take for example the recent Wayne Rooney saga at Manchester United. The news that he wanted to leave the club made headline news in most newspapers and then all the transfer talk surrounding which team was going to sign him. This example just shows how big Premier League football transfers are by making headline news.

Signing a new player is just as important to the supporters as they want players that will improve their team and new signings can mean the difference between winning and losing. Apart from actual football results, it's the one of the main things that fans look out for when checking the football section in newspapers or websites.

The fans tend to spread transfer news by word of mouth from one to another. Social networking websites like Facebook and Twitter fire the flames by spreading transfer rumours very quickly and to many people, especially if the rumour involves a well known player which can capture the imagination of the fans. If a famous player is seen talking to a club, people immediately come to the conclusion that a transfer is on the cards. A football transfer can give everyone connected with the football club a huge boost along with improving the quality of the team.

There are some websites that deliver the latest transfer news, from newspaper/magazine type websites to individual blogs. These websites contain all sorts of rumours from the sublime to the ridiculous. Many of these transfer rumours are gossip although the mere fact that these websites are so popular demonstrates how seriously fans take this subject.

UFO New Sightings - UK Government Publish Latest XFiles

Just about everyone has a viewpoint on the phenomenon known as UFO's. You may debunk UFO's and assert that anyone who claims to have seen a UFO (not to mention been 'abducted' by or witness to a UFO 'abduction') is either mistaken, easily influenced, mad or possibly all of the above. Maybe you believe unconditionally in the existence of UFOs simply because of the volume of published UFO sightings or perhaps you have personal experience of the mysterious phenomena known by the generic term Unidentified Flying Objects.

This author's mind is jammed firmly open regarding the UFO experience...you have to admit that, given the worldwide volume of 'evidence' on the subject of the UFO phenomenon or of phenomena that combine under the heading of Unidentified Flying Objects, it would be rather closed minded to write off every recorded case of UFO experiences as mere tricks of the mind or eye or hoax. Even if you're a total sceptic, we invite you now to read on...

Consider the Rendlesham Forest incidents -- aka 'The UK's Roswell' taken from the UK's MoD files:

26 Dec 1980 -- Rendlesham Forest

Early in the morning of 26 December 1980, from RAF Woodbridge's East Gate in Suffolk, sentry duty staff witnessed strange colored lights, hovering just above the tree line of the adjacent Rendlesham Forest. Staff Sergeant Jim Penniston, Airman First Class Edward Cabansag & A1C John Burroughs entered the forest by jeep to investigate the phenomenon. A radio transmission from Heathrow Airport confirmed that an object had been detected in the area.

Now some distance into the forest, Penniston and Burroughs lost radio contact with Cabansag. In a clearing they noticed a small, shiny object with a bank of blue lights on it just sitting there, completely stationary. Penniston described it as triangular in shape, three meters tall and wide. The shell was smooth and opaque, like black glass. White light encompassed most of the upper section of the craft. It was dead silent. He saw and touched symbols inscribed or engraved on it like diamond etched glass. As he did so the light became brighter. The craft moved up off the ground, started slowly weaving back through the trees at a very slow pace, then rose up over the trees to about 200 feet. And with the blink of an eye it was gone...all with no sound.

Cabansag, who waited with their jeep, also observed an object or UFO with a belt of colored lights around it.

28 Dec 1980 -- Rendlesham ForestCharles Halt, Deputy Base Commander, was involved with a subsequent UFO encounter on 28 December 1980 at Rendlesham Forest. He recorded the now famous 'Halt Tape' and also wrote a memorandum which he sent to the MoD.

On that night Halt was alerted to further unusual light cluster sightings within Rendlesham Forest and took an RAF patrol and the local Police Lieutenant into the forest to investigate. They witnessed a strange glowing object around 100-200 meters away zigzagging behind the pine trees. Halt later described the object as having the appearance of an eye, dark red with a darker section in the middle much like a pupil. One theory, later proposed, was that Orford Ness Lighthouse, six miles, away causes strange optical effects in the fog though Halt had stated that they could see the lighthouse off to the side of this object by about 30 degrees that object they all saw was no lighthouse, that it was dancing about in the forest disappearing, reappearing, then proceeded to move at a quicker rate away from them.

Halt and his team gave chase. The object led them a nearby field where it rested in the middle. It was yellow and red and would occasionally flash and throw off sparks like molten metal. Then, for no obvious reason, the object silently exploded into 3 to 5 separate white lights. There was no sound, just a bright flash. One of the objects began beaming laser like beams of light down over Rendlesham Forest and RAF Woodbridge and then disappeared

Halt's Commander, at his home at RAF Woodbridge, saw the beams of light falling down, as did people in the weapons storage area and several other places on the base. Halt later said that the object which was sending beams of light down to the ground was 'certainly under intelligent control'. A Sergeant Bobby Ball stated that the objects appeared to be searching for something, '...to me it looked like a grid search, like they were boxing off an area and looking for something.'

While we fully appreciate that some reports of UFO activity have been explained away -- possibly with some justification on many occasions -- as astronomical or meteorological phenomena, conventional aircraft, optical illusion or deliberate hoaxes, we invite you to dig a little deeper and see what gems you might unearth.

The Ministry of Defence in the United Kingdom, following a barrage of requests for information under the recently implemented 'Freedom of Information Act', opted to disclose its complete archive of reported sightings of unexplained objects in the skies around the UK.

These records and sketches, released in February 2010 are the fifth instalment released by the MoD relating to reported experiences of encounters with unidentified flying objects within UK airspace. Examples are: UFOs over Chelsea Football Club, over former Home Secretary Michael Howard's house, near misses between UFOs and passenger planes and includes papers relating to the Rendlesham Forest incidents.

This information is available to download in PDF format. You can download the complete archive and study at your leisure -- you never know what you may uncover.

Anti-Suit Injunctions After West Tankers - The Rise of Foreign Tactical Litigation

There may be occasions when the involvement of a national court is necessary in order to ensure the proper conduct of an arbitration. One such example is the use of an anti-suit injunction.

In the context of international arbitration, an anti-suit injunction is a national court order used to protect the jurisdiction of the arbitration tribunal. Through such an injunction, a party can be ordered not to pursue court proceedings initiated in breach of an arbitration agreement. This is, in part, to hold the parties to their contractual agreement and also out of concern that those court proceedings (unless restrained) could frustrate the ongoing arbitration.

Chelsea Football Club

The concern has always been that such tactical litigation results in delay and expense. As these so-called "torpedo" actions are often brought in countries where the judicial process is slow or complex, or is likely to favour a local litigant, the risk of frustrating the arbitration process is real. Traditionally, the anti-suit injunction has been viewed in England as the primary means to deal with such tactical litigation.

English courts can no longer use their traditional weapon of choice. In February 2009 the European Court of Justice ("ECJ") delivered its controversial decision on anti-suit injunctions in the case of West Tankers Inc v Allianz SpA (Case C-185/07). This case dealt with anti-suit injunctions as they apply within Europe and, in particular, how to apply EC Regulation 44/2001 ("the Judgments Regulation") to cases involving arbitrations.

After West Tankers, the English courts can no longer use their traditional weapon of choice, the anti-suit injunction, in response to proceedings started elsewhere in EU or Lugano states in breach of an agreement to arbitrate.

The effect of West Tankers is that in a case where a party has first issued court proceedings in another EU state court, in that case Italy, the Italian court should not be deprived of its right to determine its own jurisdiction pursuant to the Judgments Regulation and should not be restrained by the English court pursuant to an anti-suit injunction.

The facts of the case are these. West Tankers Inc had chartered a vessel called The Front Comor to Erg SPA (Erg) pursuant to a charterparty which provided for disputes to be resolved by arbitration in England. The vessel had a collision with a jetty in the Italian port of Syracuse, Sicily, causing substantial damage and Erg claimed compensation from its insurers, Allianz, for compensation up to the limit of its cover. Erg also commenced arbitration proceedings in London against West Tankers to recover the balance of its losses.

In the meantime, Allianz, who were the insurers, commenced subrogated proceedings against West Tankers in the Italian courts in order to recover the sums they had paid to Erg under the insurance policy.

West Tankers challenged the Italian proceedings in the English courts on the basis that the Italian courts lacked jurisdiction as the insurer's claim was covered by the arbitration agreement. West Tankers requested, amongst other relief, an anti-suit injunction requiring Allianz to discontinue the Italian proceedings.

The English High Court upheld West Tankers' claims and granted the anti-suit injunction. The insurers argued that the grant of such an injunction was contrary to the Judgments Regulation, since they had a right to bring a claim in the Italian courts and, if the Italian courts took jurisdiction, then that should be the end of the matter. On appeal, the House of Lords made a referral to the ECJ on the question whether anti-suit injunctions issued to give effect to arbitration agreements are compatible with the Judgments Regulation.

The ECJ decided that anti-suit injunctions in support of agreements to arbitrate are incompatible with the Judgments Regulation. Whilst acknowledging that because of the arbitration exception under art. 1(2)(d) of the Judgments Regulation an anti-suit injunction made to restrain the breach of an arbitration agreement fell outside the scope of the Judgments Regulation, the ECJ focused on the secondary effects of such relief on other proceedings which fell ostensibly within the Judgments Regulation. In particular, the ECJ characterised the insurers' claim before the Italian courts as a tort claim, which did fall within the scope of the Judgments Regulation, and also regarded the question as to whether these claims were covered by an arbitration agreement to be a preliminary matter for determination by the Italian court. As an anti-suit injunction could interfere with the Italian court's ability to exercise that jurisdiction, the ECJ decided that such relief must be incompatible with the Judgments Regulation. In these circumstances, it was exclusively a matter for the courts first seised of the dispute - in this case the Italian courts - to determine the validity of an arbitration agreement relied upon by a respondent in order to contest its jurisdiction. Otherwise, it would amount to stripping that court of the power to determine its own jurisdiction under the Judgments Regulation.

The ECJ decision is based on the doctrine of practical effectiveness (effet utile) in EC law, which provides that the application of national procedural rules must not prejudice the effectiveness of the Judgments Regulation in allocating jurisdictions. The principle is based on comity and "mutual trust", namely that the courts of each EU state are equally qualified to determine whether the courts of another such state have jurisdiction. The ECJ thought that an anti-suit injunction made by a fellow EU Member State was an impermissible interference with the principle underpinning the Judgments Regulation.

It is worth emphasising that West Tankers does not affect any anti-suit injunction in England that is sought against proceedings in a country outside of the Judgments Regulation or Lugano Convention states. The long range capabilities of the anti-suit injunction are, therefore, unchanged and relief will continue to be available against proceedings brought in breach of an arbitration agreement in other states including, amongst others, by way of example the United States, China, India and Russia. This important fact was confirmed by the recent decision of Cook J in Shashou v Sharma in relation to an anti-suit injunction to restrain court proceedings in India.

The practical effect of West Tankers is that where a party to an arbitration agreement has brought court proceedings in another EU Member State, it will not be possible to prevent him from continuing with those court proceedings through injunction. Those court proceedings will need to be determined; but that does not mean necessarily that the arbitration proceedings have to wait for the outcome of the court proceedings (although that will ultimately be dependent on the merits of the court proceedings and the approach of the arbitrators). In such circumstances, it may be possible to obtain an aware well in advance of a determination by the foreign court. This would then mean, in principle at least, that any award would be enforceable under the NYC (although there may be problems with enforcement in the country running parallel proceedings!).

The ECJ decision of West Tankers has been widely criticised by commentators. One of those criticisms has been that the decision does not respect one of the fundamental principles of arbitration law, which is that parties select specific jurisdictions as seats for their arbitration because of their arbitration-friendly judicial systems which can include such procedural rules as the power to grant an anti-suit injunction. The ECJ overlooked the prima facie case for giving priority to the forum expressly chosen by the parties in the arbitration agreement. And, by signing up to an arbitration agreement, the parties have elected to exclude the powers of the national courts of any jurisdiction to deal with any disputes between them covered by their agreement. This is surely the very point of the arbitration exception to the Judgements Regulations, as set out in art. 1(2)(d). And so, restraining foreign proceedings in such circumstances should not amount to a challenge to the Regulation because there is no jurisdiction to be allocated in the first place.

The West Tankers decision also ignores the well-established principle of competence-competence, which provides that it is for the arbitral tribunal to decide on the applicability and validity of the agreement to arbitrate. In the West Tankers case, the only issue that the Italian court needed to consider was whether an arbitration agreement existed in the case.

In assessing the practical impact of the West Tankers case in terms of an adverse impact on parties choosing London as a seat of arbitration in the future, two factors need to be borne in mind. Firstly, given that arbitration between parties from different EU States and Lugano Convention States are considered to comprise a comparatively small proportion of London-based arbitrations, the overall impact of the decision on London as a choice for parties to select as a centre for international dispute settlement should, in real terms, be quite limited. Secondly, other key venues for international arbitration within Europe, such as Paris, Geneva and Stockholm are popular notwithstanding the fact that anti-suit relief has never been available under those jurisdictions' procedural rules. In light of these two practical factors, there is a risk that some commentators have overstated the likely practical effect of West Tankers on international commercial arbitration in London.

The ECJ decision in West Tankers was considered by the Court of Appeal in November 2009 in National Navigation Co v Endesa Generacion SA (The Wadi Sudr). This case is worth examining as it provides the first detailed consideration of the impact of West Tankers on alternative relief available to the English courts now that the possibility of anti-suit injunctive relief has been excluded.

In the Wadi Sudr there was a London arbitration clause which was governed by English law. The Spanish court took jurisdiction in proceedings brought by Endesa and held that the arbitration agreement did not apply, partly because it had not been validly incorporated under Spanish law. Prior to the Spanish court delivering its judgment, NNC issued an arbitration claim and applied for an anti-suit injunction and a declaration that disputes between the parties were referable to London arbitration and that the English court was not required to recognise the Spanish judgment. The anti-suit injunction application was dismissed following West Tankers; however Gloster J granted the application for a declaration in the arbitration claim. That decision was appealed.

The Court of Appeal held:

The effect of the decision in West Tankers was that a judgment on a preliminary issue - including one on whether an arbitration clause had been included in the relevant contract - was a Regulation Judgment if it formed part of proceedings the main scope of which fell within the scope of the Regulation; The judgment of the Spanish court in this particular case was binding on the arbitration proceedings and gave rise to an issue estoppel; In the light of West Tankers, a party was entitled to challenge the incorporation of an arbitration clause in another EU court, and the English court had no alternative but to recognise such judgment.

The Dream Team - FC Barcelona's Glory Years

FC Barcelona is a football team based out of Barcelona, Spain. This team, known by its fans simply as Barca, has always been consistently popular ever since its inception in the 1890s. One of its most popular periods was during 1988 when former Barça player Johan Cruyff returned as club manager and assembled the Dream Team.

Cruyff's team, now dubbed the "Dream Team" after the US basketball team (which was composed of professional NBA players) that played at the 1992 Summer Olympics hosted by Barcelona. Cruyff brought in Spaniards Josep Guardiola, Jose Mari Bakero, Txiki Beguiristain, Jon Andoni Goikoetxea, along with Romanian Gheorghe Hagi, Dutchman Ronald Koeman, Dane Michael Laudrup, Brazilian Romario, and Bulgarian Hristo Stoichkov.

Chelsea FootballClub

Under Cruyff's leadership, the Dream Team won four consecutive La Liga titles (the Spanish league in which they played) from 1991 to 1994. They defeated Sampdoria in the 1989 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup final and the final match of the 1992 European Cup at Wembley Stadium with a famous Ronald Koeman free kick goal. In 1990, the Dream Team won a Copa del Rey, followed by the European Super Cup in 1992, and three Supercopa de Espana.

How exactly the Dream Team was able to accomplish what it did is open to speculation. Certainly you have to give credit to the players, none of whom had egos to match their considerable skills (or if they did they kept them in check), but you also have to consider their leader.

Johan Cruyff was a beloved figure in Barcelona due to the time he spent there as an all-star player for FC Barcelona in the 70s, during which he claimed that he had chosen to play for FC Barcelona over Real Madrid (their hated rivals) because he could not play for a club associated with former Spanish dictator Francisco Franco.

He also gave his son a Catalan (the region of Spain in which Barcelona is found) name when he was born, Jordi. Cruyff was named European Footballer of the Year in his first year with FC Barcelona and helped them win La Liga for the first time in fourteen years, defeating Real Madrid 5-0 along the way on their home field at Santiago Bernabeu Stadium in Madrid.

Cruyff was renowned for his style of play and dynamic ideas on how the game should be played, which he learned during his pre-Barça days with AFC Ajax in Amsterdam. His style was called "Total Football" and consisted of a system in which a player could move out of his position and be replaced by another on the field. This effectively maintained the organization of the team yet allowed all players to play all positions. This inevitably trickled down to his players and allowed them to function as a cohesive, winning unit.

The "Dream Team Era" was one of many golden ages for FC Barcelona, and one that they would love to recapture. As with all sports teams, these eras come and go, and although the recovered some of its former glory under Frank Rijkaard, his team never lived up to the hopes of many Barcelona supporters.

Fulham FC - London's Oldest Professional Football Club

There's a lot more than just longevity to recommend a visit to Craven Cottage, the riverside home of Fulham Football Club since 1896.

Although I lived a long way from London, Fulham were the first team from the higher divisions I 'supported'. They had some fine players then - even though they seemed to yoyo between the top two divisions. Johnny Haynes, Tony Macedo, Tosh Chamberlain, George Cohen - all great players; Haynes one of the greatest ever. Since then, some wonderful players also turned out for the Cottagers at various stages of their careers - Alan Mullery, Bobby Moore, Rodney Marsh, - even George Best. The finest goal I ever saw was scored by Best in a League Cup tie against Peterborough United in September, 1976. He stepped on the ball, flicked it into the air and then volleyed it past the current Manchester United goalkeeper coach, Eric Steele, from 25 yards. Unbelievable.

Chelsea FC

I also remember seeing Fulham play in February, 1992 - in the 'old' third division. There was no Best, Marsh or such like on that day, as they lost 1 - 0 at home to my side, Peterborough, in front of just over 5,000 people, Even then, though, Craven Cottage was a great place to watch a match. The fans there are always passionate about their team and you're close enough to the pitch to be able to feel part of the action. When Fulham received Mohamed Al-Fayed's backing and began to move through the leagues, the club had to upgrade the stadium to meet Premier League standards, but the atmosphere is still better than at most of the 'big' clubs.

I must admit, though, that I sometimes wonder if older Fulham fans sometimes look back a little nostalgically to the days when they could arrive at the ground ten minutes before the kick off, have a reasonably priced pie and then stand wherever they wanted to cheer on players they often met out in town and who didn't earn more in a week than the fans themselves would make in a year or two.

To an outsider, it does always seem as if Fulham has been able to hang on to some of that traditional atmosphere, however. The Cottage is still idiosyncratically there - an absurdity in a modern stadium but an integral part of this one. The recently unveiled statue of Johnny Haynes blends in as people come into the ground, rather than being elevated to god-like status the way so many others have been.

No, despite their wealthy backing, Fulham seem to have stayed as a people's club much more than any of the other London Premier League clubs - even West Ham. Their fans probably still think of Brentford and QPR as their most hated rivals - apart from Gillingham - just as much as Chelsea. And, with an astute, honest and likeable manager in Roy Hodgson, they also have a team that plays attractive yet committed football. If you're looking to go to a game in London, then give Craven Cottage a try - it's well worth it.

And, incidentally, it is a wonderful place to go to watch the Boat Race.

Why Rooney May Never Wear the Manchester United Football Shirt Again

The recent media storm surrounding Wayne Rooney and his lack of desire to continue to pull on a Manchester United Shirt have brought renewed focus on to the Club and brings back memories of other players in the recent past who have failed to appreciate that the club and its global brand are much greater than any individual player, no matter how gifted he may be. Sir Alex Ferguson has no doubt was to who should win when it comes to Club v Player and I am sure this can be testified to by Roy Keane, David Beckham, Jaap Stam and Ruud van Nistelrooy who have all left the club after spats with Sir Alex and they never pulled on a Man Utd shirt again. No one other than the player and the manager can know what the real reason behind the current news stories but there is no doubt that the real reason will only be revealed once a successful deal is concluded to sell the player.

The current reason for the rift is reported to be Manchester United are no longer capable of attracting the top players that Rooney wishes to play alongside. There is no doubt that as the once wealthy club is now saddled with the Glazer debt they will find it hard to spend the kind of money needed to attract the very top names but there is no doubt that they have many young players coming through who will become great players of the future as Rooney did himself and maybe by staying at the club and helping them to develop as a team by offering support & mentoring would help Rooney achieve the success he says he continues to strive for. If he was to return to top form and allow a team to be built around him he may find that he is able to achieve real greatness by remaining in the red Manchester United Shirt especially if Sir Alex remains in charge for a few more years. There is no doubt that when a player loses the desire to play for a club that he will find it increasingly difficult to perform at the level of ability he is capable of and in the case in point this has arguably been so for some months now as the football media have been quick to point out. If we consider the recent newspaper reports on Wayne Rooney's private life alongside the reports from the weekend football matches it is often the case that great skill on the football field does not go hand in hand with a settled private life as many sporting stars have proved in the past.

Chelsea Football Club

I am sure that this will be brought to a conclusion sooner rather than later and it will be interesting to see how much playing time Rooney is given between now and January next year, at which time he is likely to move on to another club, but there is little doubt that he has many more years of great football left to play, but no longer at Old Trafford unless he is in opposition to his old club.
