What Are the Privileges Enjoyed by a Football Team Goalkeeper?

A football match is a sporting activity or game that involves 22 players - 11 players on either side. That is, 11 players make a team. A team has only one goalkeeper at the goalpost.

There is no way a normal football team will have more than 11 players on the field of play. However, a team may be reduced to less than 11 players if the referee issues a red car to one or more players in a team.
A goalkeeper enjoys so many privileges such as the following:

• The goalkeeper is the only player than can be treated on the field of play when he or she gets injured. So, the game is brought to a pause once a goalkeeper has an injury during the match and the game can only continue if he or she manages to get up or if he or she tells the coach to change him or her.

• The goalkeeper is the only player that can use his head, hand, leg and any other part of his or her body to touch the ball. The only time another player can touch the ball with his or her hand is when his or her team is asked to throw the ball.

• The goalkeeper is the only player allowed to put on a pair of trousers on the field of play. No other player can try it.

• The goalkeeper is the only player allowed to function as another player. That is, he or she can also function as a defender, midfielder, winger or striker. However, another player can function as a goalkeeper if the goalkeeper gets injured and there's no reserve goalkeeper or if the goalkeeper is issued a red card.

Teaching Football to Underage Kids

Teaching football to children may seem an easy thing to do, but it is not. For one thing, this game needs a strategy that is hard for them to understand. The main thing that you should have in mind when coaching soccer for them, have fun. So, when you give them lessons about chasing the ball, you don't have to yell if they make mistakes. Here are some tips to show them how to play.

The first thing you can do in coaching soccer is having lots of assistants. It is good if you can find men to help you take care of them. One man for each kid is ideal, but you have to make sure that they have a reasonable skill or knowledge. They can help you develop each kid's ability. It is a way to help them explore their personal skill and experience.

When you are coaching soccer, don't think about uniforms or other unnecessary details that might ruin the fun part. Concentrate on developing their skill. You can use more balls, grids and cones for each child. Allow them to use their hands because it is a good way to introduce the goalie skill. Once again, forget the strict rules in playing the game.

Split your team members into small groups with less than 7 players per team. Keep an eye on their practice and take a note of their progress. Make some simple activities and make them do tasks. You don't need to give them long boring detail about the tasks. Slowly teach these you lads about your game strategy and let them play. Drive them to understand the essence of the game and the positions available.

The next thing in coaching soccer for kids is teaching them to kick right. Show them the right method on how to hit the ball. You can start with kicking a stationary ball from still position. After that, try to hit a still ball while slowly move. The next one is kicking a moving ball while in a standstill position. And the last thing is kicking moving ball while running. Slowly add the pressure and pace along the way. Patiently guide them to correctly hit the ball.

You will need lots of patience in coaching soccer for kids. Remember that they are still too young to understand complicated strategy. Don't forget to spend some time with them before and after practice. Enjoy your time and have fun.

How to Impress Any Soccer Scout

I see people ask questions like; ''What does a soccer scout look for in a player?'' So through this tutorial I'll show you what top club scouts like Manchester United, and Chelsea scouts look for. I hope this helps you out!

Step 1: You need TECHNIQUE, meaning you need a good first touch and great control. Most of the scouts don't look for fancy work. They want you to be able to receive the ball, and pass it with out loosing it! Fancy tricks are great but they usually slow down the game.

Step 2: PACE is the next thing you need. The scouts are looking for a burst of speed that will beat a player, or change a game in an instant.

Step 3: MOVEMENT!! Yes the scouts notice you without the ball to. They're looking for players who, when they have passed the ball, move quickly to get it back or can find space!

Step 4: A lot of scouts look for TEMPERAMENT too. They usually don't see this until your actually on their team. Temperature, meaning you can handle conditions like 95 degree weather or wet muddy weather. So if it's a hot summer day you should try practicing or running in the condition.

To get noticed your going to have to train constantly and make sure you have heart. Make sure you look like you want to win. Win every 50/50 ball in the air. Slide tackle do whatever it takes to stand out.

Your also going to need to get on a good club team. Make sure your the one standing out. If you are having trouble with your technique and touch then you should try soccer freestyle. It helps almost everything in your soccer game. Why do you think Ronaldinho is so good?

EPL Season 2007-08 - Your Player Transfer Guide

Shirley Bassey's song Big Spender could not come truer for the 20-club English Premiership League. With the new season starting on 11 August 2007, the transfer outlay for the 20 top soccer clubs in England has already exceeded the £300m spent last season - then already setting a dubious expenditure record. In fact, soccer pundits expect their total outlay is to surpass the magical £500m mark by the time the transfer window shuts on 31 August 2007, which is more than enough to feed millions of homeless people around the world. Indeed, the EPL is by far the world's most successfully and obscenely expensive soccer league.

Get this: with the latest television deal signed and sealed, the worldwide TV rights almost doubled to £625m, including highlights, radio, Internet and mobile-phone contracts, total amount expected to be poured into the game is well over £2.7b for the next three years. As consumers, we are indirectly funding this amount of money by paying more to watch live TV action.

Strange enough, baring an exception 1995 whereby the title was won on the last day by Blackburn Rovers, the crown has been worn by only three clubs, with Manchester United dominating follow by Arsenal and Chelsea. We find it difficult to believe that the title will escape from the clutches of any of these three clubs in the coming new season. But who knows? Perhaps Liverpool, the most successful English club in history with their massive outlay this season, will win their first ever EPL title.

In the latest transfer market, Manchester United has fired the first salvo by spending over £50m to procure new players so far. Liverpool, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspurs are playing catch-up after spending over £30m each, with surprising Portsmouth, West Ham and Fulham over £20m each, and Arsenal, Sunderland, Birmingham and Chelsea a little over £10m each. With the league being so lucrative, it is easy to understand why even modest clubs are splurging to maximum their chances of staying up for as many seasons as possible. This is evidenced by the transfer dealings of new Fulham manager Lawrie Sanchez, who sanctioned more than £20m worth of deals, well surpassing the measly £1m spent four years ago. And this makes Fulham the biggest spender in West London, surpassing the mighty Chelsea.

For people like me without deep pockets, I am contented with spending a few dollars on a wager that Shirley Bassey's Big Spender will top the bill board charts once again this coming season. Don't bet against it. Cheers.

Sadly, It Was the Correct One

There will be many vigilant eyes, eagerly awaiting the next step the Chelsea board will take in seeking to replace the void left by the exodus of the experienced boots of Michael Ballack, Joe Cole, Juliano Belletti and Deco. Chelsea would unarguably need to find a new number 10, someone who can influence play, a marquee signing. Joe Cole's departure this close season is goodbye to the last of the big influx of new players the summer Roman Abramovich bought the club. Not only was Cole the most enduring of the 2003 arrivals, but also his style of play and connection with the fans of a club he supported as a boy marked him down as one of the most popular. However all good things do come to an end and Chelsea will have to move on.

Throughout the season, it somehow just seemed that there is no possible permutation of Ancelotti's preferred Chelsea formation for the future that would see Joe Cole as the first-choice on the right flank. He just isn't as quick as the young Ivorian, Salomon Kalou and isn't incisive enough to start on the tip of the diamond. Doing this would only restrict the effectiveness of Frank Lampard, a compromise Chelsea would never dare to dream of implementing. The importance of Frank Lampard to Chelsea with his 20+ goals from midfield, season after season, is invaluable to the team. Joe Cole is neither defensively astute enough nor disciplined enough to feature as a conventional central midfielder either? So where do we go from here?

A player of Joe Cole's ability would arguably find a place in any top line up in the world. However, a series of injuries in recent campaigns along with the inconsistency in form have contributed to the Chelsea board having taking such a strict stance against him. His form has not yet reached the peak that it had before his freak FA Cup injury in January, 2009. Chelsea could only offer Cole a new contract provided he took wage-cut, something he would not fancy, and considering the regular first team football he craves for would not even be guaranteed. Not to mention the interest a player of his potential would attract, that too being available on a free transfer.

Carlo Ancelotti did use Joe Cole on the right wing towards the fag end of the season, a move that had some success. However, the former West Ham prodigy simply isn't quite impetuous or direct enough to fulfill the role Ancelotti aims for next season. While Cole featured in 26 Premier League games last season, he only started 14 of them (being slightly more than one-third only), being truly impressive in less than a handful. Although Joe Cole's contribution to Chelsea in recent years cannot be discredited from him, he has not really been at his scintillating best in recent seasons. At £80,000 a week, the club would expect much more from him. However with his escalating demands, at £100,000 a week, he was just probably getting too big for his boots. To be fair, Joe Cole has been deadweight ever for the most of the last 2 seasons and speaking of his "moments of brilliance", Malouda, Anelka and Kalou have all provided creativity and for anyone who has seen Kakuta play would agree that he is a true talent.

For both Footballing and Financial reasons, releasing the quartet of ageing players makes perfect sense. To this effect, the Chelsea Board have slashed their wage bill to the tune of £18m, something that would be enough to sign a Yaya Toure, Marek Hamsik, or even half a Sergio Aguero or Alexander Pato to name a few big money players the Chelsea board would be looking for. All these signings would greatly diversify the current Chelsea squad, one in a desperate need of refreshment. Ancelotti wouldn't want this great side to get too old and weary to compete at top level, week in week out. Hence, this revamp is needed and the promise of promotion to 5 youth team players to the first team squad for next season is much more than a welcome inclusion. It undoubtedly makes me sad thinking of Joe Cole, wearing a shirt other than a Chelsea one, but one has to realize that all great things must end and situations change over the years, something we must always take in our stride. His attacking flair and instinct will be missed, but he shall always remain special to the Stamford Bridge faithful. Thank you Joe Cole.

Watch Chelsea Vs Wigan Live Online - EPL Match Preview

Frank Lampard's Chelsea future still appears to be bleak after coach Avram Grant revealed he was not party to any of the negotiations aimed at keeping the England midfielder at the club. Lampard, who scored a hat-trick in the dramatic 4-3 win over Leicester in the Carling Cup fourth round at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night, has yet to commit himself to a new long-term deal - sparking fears he will quit the club.

Lampard's contract expires in 18 months' time, and Grant said that Frank is very important for the team. It is understood that Frank likes to do things to a high level that his target is the team target. Grant is not involved in the money situation and they are negotiating and at the end of the day they will find a solution. Frank wants to stay at Chelsea and Chelsea definitely needs Frank.

Meanwhile, a relaxed Wigan manager Chris Hutchings is planning to tackle Chelsea head on when the Blues visit the JJB Stadium this Saturday. Wigan have not won in the league since August 18 and have lost their last five matches to slip to 16th in the table. This is definitely not the form to take into a fixture against a team who have won their last three games and most recently demolished high-flying Manchester City 6-0.

However, Hutchings is determined to have a go at Avram Grant's side. He said Wigan will be fighting hard because they believe they can get something out of the game. He added that they must think like this no matter who the opposition are and that every game Wigan play, they have to battle and roll up their sleeves and earned the right to play. Well maybe Grant is right because after all, no team is invicible and anything can happen on the pitch. Let's see if Wigan can upset Chelsea in the Saturday match.

The Spectacular Stadiums of the 2010 FIFA World Cup

The 2010 FIFA World Cup matches will be played in stadiums all over South Africa, some of which are being specially built for the tournament. Here is an informational breakdown about the spectacular venues that will host some of the most exciting and talented soccer players from every corner of the globe in June and July of 2010.

Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium

On the beautiful shores of the North End Lake in Nelson Mandela Bay/Port Elizabeth lies the newly constructed Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium. The construction crews working on the venue knew it had to be completed in time for the World Cup but they actually finished almost a year ahead of schedule and the stadium is already in use. The playing field of this multipurpose center has a central natural grass pitch surrounded by areas of artificial turf. Its unique domed roof only adds to the beautiful view of the lake as seen from the shore. Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium will host a total of eight World Cup matches including one of the quarter finals and the third place playoff game.

Green Point Stadium

The architectural splendor of the Green Point Stadium in Cape Town is nothing short of breathtaking. This is another of the stadiums that are being especially built for the FIFA 2010 World Cup, but long after the soccer stars leave town city officials intend for it to become the new Mecca for all kinds of Cape Town entertainment events; everything from soccer to opera. The outside of the stadium has been constructed using noise reducing cladding and can sit up to 70,000 spectators at any given time. Green Point Stadium will be the venue for one of the two World Cup semi finals that will be played in July of 2010.

Moses Mabhida Stadium

The other semi final will be held at the spectacular Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban. This stadium, which is scheduled to be completed by December of 2009, is a testament to the sheer ingenuity of South African architecture. Its shape is inspired by the South African flag itself and when complete it will even feature a cable car that will ascend to the top of the expansive 1148 foot high arch, allowing visitors a spectacular view of the lively city down below. The stadium's namesake was a poor farm boy who went on to engineer and develop the armed wing of the ANC, which was known as the Umkhonto we Sizwe, and played a key role in the end of apartheid in his homeland.

Ellis Park Stadium

Ellis Park Stadium, located in the heart of Johannesburg, is not a new facility, although it is underwent a significant renovation before playing host to the 2009 Confederations Cup Final showdown between Brazil and the USA. The largest piece of new construction was the addition of a new tier of seating at the north end which increased the seating capacity to 62,000. A brand new natural grass pitch has also been installed and a state of the art audio visual system installed to ensure every fan gets the best possible match experience.

Soccer City Stadium

Both the first and the most anticipated game of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, the final, will be played at the iconic Soccer City Stadium, also located in Johannesburg. Although newly renovated, the Soccer City Stadium has already been the site of numerous historic moments in time. It was there that Nelson Mandela held his first public rally after being freed from prison in 1990 and thousands gathered again in 1993 to mourn the assassination of Chris Hani, the charismatic man who followed in Nelson Mandela's footsteps as leader of the ANC. The venue can accommodate an astonishing 94,700 spectators and its overall design is fashioned after a traditional South African pot called the calabash. When lit at night, the stadium is a jewel in the Johannesburg skyline.

Free State Stadium.

Free State Stadium is home to the Bloemfontein Celtic soccer team, whose fans are renowned the world over for being some of the most loyal a team could desire. Located in Mangaung / Bloemfontein, a quiet open city, the stadium has already been the venue for a huge recent soccer upset when it hosted the semi final game of the Confederations Cup in 2009 that saw the USA send European champions Spain packing in front of a capacity crowd. The Free State Stadium underwent a full renovation before the Confederations Cup that added 7,000 seats to bring its seating capacity up to 45,000.

Mbombela Stadium

Mbombela Staduim, located in Nelspruit, a city which is a part of the famous Kruger National Park, is another new construction that was commissioned especially to host World Cup 2010 games. Mbombela is the name of the municipality of which Nelspruit is a part and translated from SiSawti, one the 11 languages officially spoken in South Africa,it means "many people together in a small space." The construction of the stadium was especially welcomed by the citizens of this beautiful area, as prior to its existence there was no real top class venue available to host international events of any kind.

Peter Mokaba Stadium

Named after its most famous son Peter Mokaba, who was a force to be reckoned with during the struggle to end apartheid, the city of Polokwane's brand new stadium is built next to the site of the old Peter Mokaba Staduim where former African player of the year and current Chelsea soccer superstar Didier Drogba made his debut for the Côte d'Ivoire national team. The new stadium was envisioned by its architects to resemble the local natural icon the Baobab tree, as its steel structures will form "trunks" to support the jutting roof planes.

Royal Bafokeng Stadium

The Royal Bafokeng Stadium was first built in 1999, but is undergoing a considerable facelift prior to its hosting duties for the 2010 World Cup matches. Seating 42,000 it is named for the people of the area, the Bafokeng. Although the town of Rustenberg, where it is located, has no soccer team to call its own at this time it has been the site of numerous Premier Soccer league games and was the stadium where the then fledgling South African soccer team beat Bakino Faso 2-1 in a World Cup qualifying game in 2001.

Loftus Versfeld Stadium

The Loftus Versfeld Stadium is one of the oldest sports facilitates in South Africa. Originally constructed in 1903 it has undergone a great many renovations over the decades. It is located in the beautiful Tshwane/Pretoria area, which is a spectacular blend of old and new architecture that reflects the areas diverse heritage. When it was first built as a wooden structure the Loftus Versfeld Stadium could accommodate a mere 2,000 spectators. Its capacity for the 2010 World Cup will be 50,000.

The people of South Africa are hoping that by hosting the FIFA World Cup in 2010 they can showcase their beautiful country to peoples of the world who know very little about it, as well as prove that the country truly desires to become a world soccer force to be reckoned with. To that end thousands of construction workers have been working night and day to ensure that all the stadiums die to host World Cup matches will be in perfect condition to do so.

To recognize this effort FIFA announced a few months ago that they will be giving away 20,000 free tickets to the men and women who are working so hard to make sure that the FIFA 2010 World Cup is a resounding success.

Manchester United Football Club - Loved Across The World

Manchester United Football Club is an English football club, sited at the Old Trafford stadium in Trafford, Greater Manchester, and probably the most admired football club in the world, with over fifty million supporters worldwide. Manchester United Football Club is a world-famous English football club, with a capacity of over 76,000 and the highest average crowd in the league. Manchester United Football Club is perhaps the single thing for which the city of Manchester is most famed. The heritage of Manchester United football club is wonderful and most supporters have a real empathy to the club. Manchester has a tradition of excellence in sport. Manchester United Football Club is less than 2 from the University, first class cricket can be seen at Old Trafford, and Salford has one of the best Rugby League teams in the country, the renowned Salford Reds.

Football

Since the late 1990s, the club has been one of the richest in the world, and until recently had the top revenue of any football club for several years running. Nearly overnight, English football re-invented itself as a sensational sport with enormous commercial appeal. The enormous power and reach of television is turning football into one of the world's most lucrative sports. The club is one of the most successful clubs in England, having won the FA Premier League/Football League fifteen times, FA Cup 11 times and the European Cup/UEFA Champions League twice.

Cup

They also became the first English teams to participate in the European Cup, at the request of the FA, who had denied Chelsea the same chance the previous season, and got as far as the semi-final, only to be knocked out by Real Madrid. Tragedy hit the following season, when the airplane transporting the team back from a European Cup match crashed on take-off at a refuelling stop in Munich, Germany. The plane skidded off the end of the runway, through a fence and into an empty home. Despite the accident, they reached the FA Cup final again, where they lost to Bolton Wanderers. Manchester United have won silverware on a frequent basis throughout their proud and thriving history and on the domestic front have won the both the old First Division Championship and the Premier League, the old Second Division, and the FA Cup and League Cup. By the time Matt Busby left in 69 United had won five First Division titles, 2 FA Cup Finals and of course became the first English team to win the European Cup in 68.

Fans

When Manchester United went to Thailand in 1997, 1000s of United fans went to the national stadium in Bangkok to see their heroes for real; but the closest most of The Clubs Asian supporters got to seeing their team is on national TV, where the whole English Premiership is promoted almost daily.

Up to 67,500 fans often pack into Old Trafford to see Manchester United play football. Like mentioned before, the biggest group of fans can be found in Asia. This has enabled Manchester United to make an interactive, on-line football society that will become the ultimate match and club experience for all its fans, on match days, during the build up, and then the after-match analysis. Maintaining their position could not have been done without the fans worldwide that have turned into United-consumers in the meantime. Of course, when in Manchester, Manchester United football club is one of the first things that jumps to mind for nearly everyone, so a visit to their stadium at Old Trafford is a frequent pilgrimage for fans.

Watch Out, Pep

The way our defense conceded the goal against Boca Juniors raises many questions. The biggest of it all will be whether our defense will stand tall against quality opponents. If we look carefully at the personals employed in Barcelona defense namely Puyol, Marquez, Caceres, Pique, Alves, Abidal, it is really hard to understand this defensive mess. Most of them are the best you can get in their respective position. But even then when they form the haunted Barcelona defense they start to make the silliest mistakes. I don't think Guardiola could hire anyone more to strengthen the defense. But still he cannot afford to look away to these inherent problems.

Our defense was one of the weakest in terms of defending the aerial ball. It was like that for some season. Even when we won the Champions League and the La Liga title in 2006, we were very susceptible in air. To overcome that Rijkaard bought Zambrotta, Abidal, Toure and Thuram. Rijkaard went but the defensive susceptibility to aerial ball remained intact. These all gentlemen when they play for their respective national sides looks so assured in air but not with Barcelona. If you add to this the way we have conceded goals against lesser known opponents in the pre-season, we could be in for more trouble. But the way we conceded the goal against Boca Juniors raises serious concerns. In that goal the entire defense moved to cut off one person opening up two Boca Juniors players who only had Pinto to be beaten. A similar goal was scored in our pre-season also; I don't remember which team scored against us. In that case also the entire defense moved together to cut off a cross from left apparently leaving players unmarked in the far right post. These problems did not feature in any reports as Barcelona was comfortably out-scoring other teams. But against quality opponents this could be the difference in winning and losing the match. So the first task for Guardiola is to install some discipline in defense in terms of man-marking. It is easier said than done. But he needs to address this to turn this team into world beaters again. This should also some what negate the serial vulnerability.

The second problem for Barcelona especially last season was our inability to score from corners. Many top notch sides were content in conceding corners against us. Manchester United semi final clash was a prime example. Will they do the same with other teams like Chelsea, Milan etc? Absolutely not. Usually any defense concedes a corner only if they have no other option, but against Barca that is their first option. In majority of last season game the number of corners ran to two digits. But their conversion rates were appalling. Another problem was the lack of an alternate plan. Everyone knows how Barcelona plays - a series of slick short passes. But sometimes this comes as a cropper, in such a scenario the team lacks a secondary plan which can be at least used to unsettle the opponents. Guardiola seriously have to decide who is going to take those free kicks. He has to designate the task to two persons so that they can take more effort in getting those on target.

How Will Arsenal Fare in The New EPL Season?

It is almost universally accepted that they play the most expansive and attractive brand of football in the English Premier League. Yet, they have now gone five years without winning a single trophy - that despite the promise from manager Arsene Wenger that his team were ready to win a major trophy last season. The faithful fans await that day when there will be an addition to the Gunners' trophy cabinet.

Critics will say that Arsenal have now pretty much officially gone into reverse as a team, and certainly as a major force in the English premier league since 2005. That was the last year the Gunners finished in the top two of the premiership even though they were 12 points behind the then champions - Chelsea. Since then they have basically flattered to deceive as genuine title contenders. Over that period, they finished 4th in 2006, 4th in 2007, 3rd in 2008, 4th in 2009, and 3rd in 2010.

As most fans know all too well, winning the English premier league is a tough challenge and it has certainly got tougher in the time since the Gunners last won the league. In that time, although Manchester United have won the league there times and Chelsea twice, a number of newbies have emerged to challenge the orthodoxy.

Enter Old Trafford's noisy neighbours from Manchester City and the Gunners' very own neighbours from hell, Spurs. Tottenham have moved from journey men in to a serious outfit under the management of Harry Redknapp who seems to be enjoying the chance to manage a club with big ambitions and relatively deep pockets.

Fancy footwork only goes so far. What Arsenal need is not a flashy striker but some semblance of backbone running through the team. A solid midfielder who can hold the forte while others around him such as Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri surge forward is much needed and the available option simply don't cut it at the highest level. Memories of Rooney and Ronaldo and then Rooney and Nani running rings around the arsenal midfield and defense in subsequent Champions League semi-finals still haunt the Emirate faithful. Alexander Hleb, a former Arsenal midfielder recently joined Birmingham City football club on loan for the season. His old team could probably use his services even more.

Arsenal's squad for the new season consists of the following players: Manuel Almunia, Andrey Arshavin, Nicklas Bendtner, Marouane Chamakh, Gael Clichy, Pereka Neves Denilson, Vassiriki Abou Diaby, Johan Danon Djourou-Gbadjere, Emmanuel Eboue, Lukasz Fabianski, Cesc Fabregas, Laurent Koscielny, Vito Mannone, Samir Nasri, Tomas Rosicky, Bacary Sagna, Bilong Song, Dimitri Alexandre, Robin Van Persie, Thomas Vermaelen, Sebastien Squillaci.

Footballer Profile - John Terry

If ever a footballer played with his heart on his sleeve, that man is John Terry.

I have no way of knowing the truth of the following story or otherwise but I wouldn't be in the least surprised if it wasn't true. Apparently, John Terry has the ball that he so horribly miskicked from the penalty spot in the Champions League final against Manchester United two seasons ago sitting in his house so that he can see it every day. It must have been the worst moment of his career; and his genuine emotion was evident for everyone to see. Now, he uses it as a spur to his determination to make amends. That sums up the man.

John Terry was, of course, the only Englishman selected for the All Star team at the end of the 2006 World Cup - and that's just one of the honours that have come the way of the Chelsea and England captain. Twice considered the Best Defender in the Champions League, the PFA Players' Player of 2005 and in the FIFPro World XI for four consecutive seasons, he was also the first England player to score at the New Wembley - heading home a David Beckham free kick in the one all draw with Brazil in June, 2007.

Twenty nine at the beginning of December, 2009, Terry has been a first team regular at Chelsea since the beginning of the decade. After a few games on loan at Nottingham Forest, he quickly became a permanent fixture in the Chelsea team and has played alongside some of the modern game's best central defenders - Marcel Desailly, William Gallas and Ricardo Carvalho. Ironically, when he joined the London club at 14 years old, Terry was a midfield player but it soon became apparent that the heart of the defence was going to be the best place for this dominating, strong player.

Terry's courage, and complete commitment to the cause of his Chelsea and England teams, has become legendary. This is a man who would willingly put himself in jeopardy in order to prevent a goal - and who clearly expects nothing less from the players around him. This selfless dedication, of course, almost had tragic consequences during the League Cup Final of 2007 against Arsenal when, diving in front of an opposition player, he was kicked in the head. Unconscious and nearly swallowing his tongue, only the prompt action of Gary Levin, the Arsenal physio, who rushed onto the pitch to take the necessary action, ensured that tragedy was avoided.

Never afraid of the physical side of defending, it might be a surprise to learn that Terry didn't receive his first 'straight red card' until as recently as September 2008 in a match against Manchester City, although he has had his share of confrontations with opposition players.

He's also scored his fair share of important goals - usually with headers from corner or free kicks. Of the 36 goals he's scored for Chelsea, in his 427 matches in all competitions, many have been vital for the club; and all of them have obviously meant so much for this Chelsea stalwart and icon.

I'm sure there are many Chelsea fans who have already changed their screensavers to show John Terry celebrating his winning goal against Manchester United in the league recently. How good must that have made his feel?

Liverpool FC - The Glory Days

When it comes to Glory Days, there isn't a team in England that can match Liverpool's.

When you consider their achievements during the era that started with the legendary Bill Shankly and continued under the stewardship of Bob Paisley, Joe Fagan and the exalted Kenny Dalglish then you can understand the frustration of supporters desperate to win the league title for the first time since 1990.

Bill Shankly - perhaps, along with Brian Clough, the most quoted football manager of all time - was actually appointed manager in 1959 but had to get the club out of the 'old' Second Division before his title winning days could begin. Arguably, though, a decision he made early on in his managerial career proved to be one of the most important of them all. Should you go on the Anfield Stadium Tour at any time, you'll see the Press Room, which is an important enough part of any modern football club. This Press Room, though, is on the site of the old Boot Room, one of the most iconic aspects of Liverpool's greatest era. It was Shankly who changed the Boot Room from its original purpose into the famous and influential 'think tank' where the Liverpool coaches would sit and talk for hours. The Boot Room, launchpad of the careers of Paisley and Fagan, would have some wonderful stories to recount.

Liverpool won the league title under Shankly for the first time in 1963 - 64; interestingly enough Manchester United, Everton, Spurs and Chelsea were the next four teams in the League, which had no fewer than 15 teams that are in this season's Premier League. (There's a good quiz question for you!) This was just the beginning of Liverpool's glorious era of domination of English, and European, football; Shankly's teams, driven by his amazing motivational powers, won the league again in 1966 and 1973, the FA Cup in 1965 and 1974 and their first European competition, the UEFA Cup, in 1973, with two goals from Kevin Keegan.

After Shankly's retirement, Bob Paisley gained even more success, winning an almost unbelievable 21 trophies during his nine seasons as manager. As well as another UEFA Cup success, this haul included no fewer than three European Cup successes in 1997, 1998 and 1981 and six league titles. The Liverpool machine looked completely unstoppable.

When the affable Paisley retired - Mark Lawrenson affectionately likened him to a favourite grandfather when he arrived to sign him from Brighton in his carpet slippers - the continuity that was so important at this time continued with the appointment of his right-hand man, Joe Fagan. In his first season as manager, 1983/84, Fagan's team became the first in England to win three trophies in one season - the European Cup, League and League Cup.

It is generally agreed that the events at the Hysel Stadium at the following season's European Cup Final had a devastating impact on the manager and he resigned soon after. Kenny Dalglish then became the first top-flight player manager in English football, successfully combining both roles. Three championships and two FA Cups meant that, although the club were no longer competing in Europe because of the post-Hysel ban, the successes were still plentiful. At the beginning of the 90s, though - after Hillsborough and with the resignation of King Kenny - the Glory days came to an end.

Liverpool have, of course, continued to win trophies and remain one of the very best teams in Europe. In recent seasons, after all, they have captured the Champions' League, UEFA Cup and two FA and League Cups. Still no sign of that elusive league title, though.

The Glory days were glorious indeed. Successive teams still run off the tongue to this day - Lawrence, Lawler, Byrne, Strong, Yeats, Stevenson, Callaghan, Hunt, St John, Smith, Thompson from the 1960s; Clemence, Neal, Jones, Smith, Kennedy, Hughes, Keegan, Case, Heighway, Callaghan, McDermott from the 1970s (with supersub Fairclough); Clemence, Neal, A Kennedy, Thompson, R Kennedy, Hansen, Dalglish, Lee, Johnson, McDermott, Souness from the early 80s; and others containing some of the English game's greatest players - Rush, Toshack, Lawrenson, Beardsley, and many, many more.

Incidentally, earlier I mentioned that there were 15 current Premier League teams in the old First Division in 1964. When Liverpool won their most recent title, in 1990, there were only 8 - including all of the top six. See if you can name them. If you really want to tease yourself, though, try working out which four current top tier teams were in the old Division Three and which was in Division Four. And which two teams that were in that division aren't even in the Football League anymore. Which puts Liverpool's 'fall' from the Glory Days into a little more perspective!

Abbey Clancy Voted Football's Sexiest WAG

Stunning Abbey Clancy has been voted Football's Sexiest WAG. The blonde girlfriend of Liverpool and England striker Peter Crouch beat Cheryl Cole who's the wife of Crouch's England team-mate Ashley Cole into second place.

Liverpool-born Abbey Clancy, 21, shot to fame when she began darting the 6ft 7in bean-pole England striker. Since then she has starred in TV program, Hell's Kitchen, and has just finished shooting her own calendar.

Joe Cole's gorgeous fitness instructor fiancee Carly Zucker, 26, was third, Elen Rives, Spanish-born fiancee of Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard was fourth. Melanie Slade, 18-year-old partner of Arsenal wonderkid Theo Walcott came fifth.

Sadly the poll won't make pleasant reading for poor old Victoria Beckham, wife of LA Galaxy footballer, David Beckham. Self-proclaimed top WAG Posh Spice, 33, limped in towards the bottom of the league at number 17.

Carl Christensen (corr), MD at The People's Club who conducted the survey of 3,000 football fans, said: "Abbey Clancy was a clear winner and it's not hard to see why. She has just about everything that a young multi-millionaire footballer could want in a woman."

"I guess the only question football fans might want answered is: why on earth is she with Peter Crouch?"

"It was good to see that a couple of down-to-earth WAGs like Melanie Slade and Carly Zucker, who are either juggling careers or working hard to get good qualifications, featured in the poll as well. It is little wonder so many girls aspire to being a WAG, and why so many boys aspire to being footballers if they know they could end up with someone as sexy as any of these WAGs."

Outspoken Girls Aloud singer Cheryl, 24, married former Arsenal defender Ashley Cole last year.

Other stunners to make the top 20 include Wayne Rooney's missus Coleen McLoughlin, 21, who was voted in at number six. Coleen has been at the side of Manchester United and England striker Wayne since he was first signed to Everton as a schoolboy.

Jermain Defoe might be out of favour at Spurs at the moment - but his fiancee certainly isn't. Charlotte Mears, 25, made it in at number seven.

Alex Curran, 25, who married Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard in the summer, is at number eight followed by former Emmerdale star and wife of Liverpool's Aussie winger Harry Kewell, Sheree Murphy, 32.

The new wife of England and Chelsea skipper John Terry, Toni Poole, 24, completed the top ten.

Unfashionable Reading have a 'representative' in the shape of Big Brother wannabe Imogen Thomas, 24-year-old girlfriend of Royals defender Ibrahim Sonko.

And even fans of League One outfit Yeovil Town have something to shout about with WAGS Boutique beauty Jadine Bircham, 32, - wife of midfielder Marc - creeping in at number 13.

The fittest Championship WAG was named as Julie Phillips, 36, - wife of crocked West Bromwich Albion and England striker Kevin.

Mrs Beckham was sandwiched between two other WAGS who play for a club which lacks LA Galaxy-style glamour - Bristol City.

Singer Jamelia, 26, who is engaged to marry the Robins striker Darren Byfield and former Atomic Kitten star Liz McClarnon, also 26, lives with Byfield's team-mate Lee Trundle.

Despite her hubby Jamie now concentrating on his career as a pundit Louise Redknapp, 33, crept in at number 20.

EPL Team Profile - Liverpool

The formal name of the club is Liverpool Football Club, or Liverpool FC.

Known popularly by their nickname of the Reds, Liverpool's home venue is Anfield, with a capacity of just over 45,000. Founded in 1892, Liverpool have won the most league titles, 18 in all, a record that's jointly held with Manchester United, although none of those titles have come in the Premier League.

Liverpool have American owners in George Gilett and Tom Hicks; their chairman is Martin Broughton, and the manager, Roy Hodgson. Last season, the Reds finished at 7th place in the Premier League rankings.

In three matches played this year, the Anfield outfit have a win and a draw, apart from a 3-0 loss to Manchester City, one of Liverpool's rivals for a top four spot.

Pre-season Review:

The pre-season began for Liverpool in an atmosphere of intrigue. It all started with the departure of manager Rafa Benitez, from the squad. Thereafter, several stories played out as the headlines and rumours were kept alive.

Roy Hodgson took over as the Merseysider's new manager. One of Hodgson's early signings was Joe Cole on a free transfer. Steven Gerrard chose to stick on with the club. Fernando Torres belied rumours of his imminent departure. And the American owners put up the club for sale.

The Merseysiders comprise the following players: Reina, G Johnson, Agger, Carragher, Skrtel, Gerrard, Lucas, C Poulsen, Torres, Jovanovic, Kuyt, Jones, Kyrgiakos, Kelly, Maxi, Spearing, Pacheco, and Babel.

Rafa Benitez did not favour wingers. But having arrived from Chelsea, Joe Cole can give the Merseysiders the additional zing of flank attacks. Liverpool's atatcks have recently been uni-dimensional, in that they have through the middle of the park.

In an early summer signing, Charlton Athletic's Jojo Shelvey was welcomed to the squad. If he could make it to the starting eleven, 18 year old Shelvey would want to emulate his form in League One.

Standard Liege's Milan Jovanovic, an early signing who was spotted by Benitez, has arrived, and his inclusion in the Anfield squad means additional attack options. Glasgow Rangers' Danny Wilson is another promising sign up. Among departures, Albert Riera and Yossi Benayoun are most significant.

There is no pressure of expectation on Roy Hodgson, after the poor showing by the Reds in the 2009-10 season, and the change at the helm can only do good for the team. And if Hodgson has been lucky in retaining Torres and Gerrard, he cannot hope to hang on to Javier Mascherano, and must work on getting a replacement, ASAP.

If they play to potential, Liverpool are capable of doing better than they did last season, but I cannot envisage the Merseysiders finishing any better than 5th.

Killer Tips on Preaching Soccer Coaching Philosophy

What follows is a simplistic way of bearing in mind the essential soccer coaching factors ate determine the team philosophy and moving along with it. We can apply this philosophy to our youth team very easily as it is easier than we can imagine.

The 6 essential factors which are required for an effective youth coaching philosophy are; parents, coaches, excitement, selection, time, and success windows.

Communicating with Parents regularly: Parental influence is the key factor for soccer training which is essential in the mental and physical growth of your players, particularly on the day of the match. The pamphlet of "parental responsibilities" provided at the beginning of the term is not adequate. Meetings with the parents should be set to discuss the concerns and reminding them the important points.

New soccer coaches: An important part of the philosophy is that you should not only concentrate on development of the players, but also the coaches. The kid's parents can also be considered for soccer coaching. They would be most suitable and a great option for the future.

Selection: One of the biggest reasons why players with great soccer skills drop out is non-selection. Studies show that players would rather get selected for a bad team out of the fear of getting rejected for a good team. Therefore, use a logical selection system which gives all players equal game time.

Time: Be particular in starting the session on time and also the timely arrival of the parents. When the start times and finish times are clearly defined, you can execute the session very well.

Excitement: Is it imperative that every soccer coaching session has to be enjoyable? Yes, try to make every session enjoyable for the kids but also understand that it may not be possible every time. Hence, choose enthusiasm as a substitute.

When you train the kids, it is perfectly natural that coaches have problems coming up with different ideas on how to make sessions fun. So, the biggest challenge in teaching soccer is to be creative enough and keep introducing new and innovative ideas so that the kid's remain interested in the game.

In soccer drills, keep increasing the level of difficulty for the player's to grow. The best way of doing this is to get started with a game, look for a problem, and then rectify it with a drill.

Success windows: Make an effort to create a success window for the season as an important part of your training. This needs you to determine a lower limit and an upper limit of time with a view to measure the level of success that needs to be achieved.

To take an example, time frame of minimum four and maximum eight weeks. This can be achieved for both the team and individual members.

In your interest, embrace a soccer coaching philosophy like this become a part of the development phase of your kid's training once the basics have been covered. For more information, join our youth coaching community which has a collection of relevant material and resources on youth soccer.

Soccer Routine Kids - Useful Tips

Soccer routine kids is something that every coach has to deal with. The coach has to work hard in dealing with various discipline problems at the training session.

Proper Soccer Practice Behavior For Kids

Following are some of the things that coaches need to make sure regarding the discipline and behavior of the kids.

o All the kids must follow all instructions of the coach and of those who are assisting the coach in the training session.

o Kids must be attentive to what the coach has to say.

o No matter who wins or loses, the ethics and dignity of the game must be followed.

o There should be no swearing or name-calling.

o Do not allow the kids kick the ball until you tell them to do so.

Using Whistle

Whistle is an important equipment for soccer training and every coach must use the same in order to get attention from the players.

The Training Session Is Not An Academic School

It is very important for the coach to understand that the soccer coaching is different from the way classes in academic schools are held. Kids come for the training session with an intention to have fun and play. If the coaches will make the game look very serious, the kids will not enjoy the same and this may result in various disciplinary issues.

Therefore, if you want the kids to have their interest in the game following all the disciplines, you must design the training session fun and engaging. Do not be too rigid, but do not be too light as well.

Do Not Teach By Lecture Only

You should teach everything through practice and interactive games and soccer drills, and not through the long boring lectures. Well, lectures are important, but you must keep it short and simple. Again, there should be no lecture in the middle of the game.

The right time for the lecture is the beginning of the session or in different breaks. Majority of the training session must be in the form of a keep-away game or cone drills. Explain the drills briefly, and then let them run around and play

The more the training session will be interactive, fun and engaging, the les you will have to deal with the disciplinary issues. Thus, soccer routine kids can be easy to deal with if you take care of the little things as discussed.

Ed Hardy Flats - Super Stylish Ballet Flats For Women

In the fashion world, 2009 could easily be called, "The year of Ed Hardy"!  Ed Hardy Flats are no exception to this - they now are available in several different styles.  As long as you love the bold fashionable looks offered with this brand, there is likely one of these that you will love:

Chelsea - These flats have a quilted patent faux leather upper, each color having a distinctly different selection from the Ed Hardy prints.  Not only are the prints bold and gorgeous, there is a shimmery toe cap on the front of the shoe as well as a shimmering strip on the heel to truly set off the colors on the remaining part of the shoe.   Lovely!

Twisty - These have a similar general look to the Chelsea, however the toe cap is made from a solid color suede rather than a shimmering fabric.  The "Ed Hardy" logo is across the right side of the toe cap.  These flats have a more feminine appearance being closer to a pastel general shade and a fun bow tie on the outside-front of the shoe.  Even though these are a bit more feminine than the style above, there is absolutely no lack of bold patterns and style.

Sin City - Rather than having prints to set this style apart, these shoes feature bold silver studs on the left and right sides.  Colors are solid - there are some gorgeous bright shades to choose from as well as solid black.  The famous signature logo is printed on the sides of the shoe in the front.

Eye Candy - These truly live up to their name in terms of appearance!  They are absolutely gorgeous and are available in several colors and prints.  Suede toe cap with signature on the side - very colorful with bold and striking patterns.  However - from the reviews I have seen with these shoes there is a problem with the back of the shoe rubbing and being less than comfortable and more difficult to wear than the other shoes listed above.

There may be other Ed Hardy Flats in the months to come, but these four styles are perfect for ladies who love a style that could be said to be "out of the fringe"!

Risks Associated With The Misuse Of Daily Disposable Contact Lenses

Almost thirteen percent of people who have visual correction needs have turned to contact lenses. Over the years, many technological advancements have been introduced by the contact lens industry that have changed the way lenses are made, what they are made of, as well as the way they are packaged for consumption by wearers. The one thing that hasn't changed however, is that contact lenses are still medical devices and this means that you should be fitted by a eye care professional and follow their lens care instructions thereafter. Wearing contact lenses is a serious matter. A prescription is required to wear them. As with any prescription you receive, it requires your understanding of the potential problems that you could experience as a result of non-compliance and over wear.

When disposable contact lenses were first introduced in the early 1990's, many eye care professionals applauded, as the most frequent problems they encountered as practitioners were related to lens handling and care. The seemingly perfect solution was provided when the lens industry introduced daily disposable contact lenses. These lenses were designed and packaged for daily replacement; that is daily use, removal, and disposal each and every day contact lenses are worn. These lenses solved many problems. With these lenses now, there is no need to have lens cases for their storage as the lenses are to be discarded at the end of the day. No lens case means that there is no risk of transmitting bacterial flora from a dirty lens case to the lens. Fresh and sterile lenses are inserted each day. No need for extensive cleaning and disinfecting. What could be more convenient?

Even though an eye care professional provides clear instructions regarding the wearing regimen and its importance, the greatest challenge remaining with the fitting of daily disposable contact lenses is over wear. This is an event that happens when the wearer tries to use the same daily wear contact lens for more than one day. In this specific instance to do so will re-introduce the lens case and the solutions parameters with their related issues. More importantly however is the fact that patients tend not to clean their daily wear lenses when using them multiple times. Doing so takes us right back to issues that pertain to the basics of dirty lenses and their problems.

To make the point on the specific issue of how dirty lenses can affect ocular health we need to review some basic information on the eye. The tissue on which your contact lenses sit when properly fitted is called the cornea. It is a very thin and clear tissue that represents the outer layers of the eye, layers of tissue that function to transmit and help focus light rays traveling into the eye. The cornea requires oxygen to remain healthy; yet, it has no blood vessels. This seems almost impossible but it is in fact the reality of the cornea. It has no direct internal supply of oxygen. Therefore, the cornea must rely on outside or atmospheric oxygen to remain healthy. To accommodate this phenomenon contact lenses are made from various porous materials. These pores, created by the gaps in the interlacing of the various types of plastic polymers, allow oxygen to be transmitted through the contact lens to reach the cornea. Oxygen diffused through tears is also important but it is less contributory than that which comes from the atmosphere.

Each time you place a contact lens on your eye, tears immediately begin to coat the lens. Human tears are necessary to keep the eye moist, clean, and clear. Tears contain lipids and more than 50 different proteins. These lipids and proteins immediately begin to fill the porous surface of the contact lens, the same pores that were originally designed to allow for the oxygenation of the cornea. When wearing the same lens over and over again what you will see happening is that the pores of the contact lens begin to clog up with natural tear components. Over time, this process will decrease and eventually severely limit the transmission of oxygen to the cornea. When looking at the lenses at the end of a day's wear, one can see that the lens is coated with debris and will require some physical rubbing to dislodge this debris. Once rinsed the debris will have been decreased on the surface but with little to no effect on the debris lodged in the pores.

When you compound the issues of lens cleanliness, and lens soiling with the ever important issue of oxygen deprivation you truly begin to comprehend the reasons for staying with a properly executed daily wear regimen. Any time the cornea is deprived of oxygen it sends out distress signals to the body for help. The body can do several things. One of these is to signal the blood vessels that exist at the periphery of the cornea to begin to move into the cornea as an emergency measure to supply oxygen. Since the cornea is always clear and without blood vessels, this condition could become a pathological one and, if allowed to develop, may bring blood vessels right into your field of vision.

So as you can see, keeping lenses clean and fresh is high on eye care practitioners' list of priorities. Limiting the re-use of your daily disposable lenses to a one-time use only as designed, provides both the professional and the contact lens wearer with a great measure of safety and ocular health, factors which were the basic objectives leading to the development of the daily wear lens. Encouraging successful fitting and the ongoing use of the wearer's contact lenses is the only way that the contact lens industry can continue to count on providing a valuable service to its clients.

Chelsea Linked With Major Signings

While the news that Chelsea are very keen on Atletico Madrid starlet Sergio Aguero, is hardly new, it does seem that the club could be making headway on landing the Argentinean international striker. The son-in-law of Argentina's national coach, Diego Maradona, has been dropping broad hints that his future may lie away from Atletico Madrid over the past couple of weeks and it seems Chelsea head the list of clubs ready to land the player in a deal reputed to be worth around £40m. The only problem to the deal could be if Manchester City's new boss Roberto Mancini, decides to make a similar kind of offer for the player, but that, as of now, is by no means certain.

Another striker that Chelsea are reportedly close to securing a deal for is Wolfsburg's talented Bosnian international striker Edin Dzeko. Dzeko has been trailed by Manchester United, Arsenal and Milan recently and all three clubs were reportedly interested in the striker. However it seems that as a result of this interest, the players asking price has shot up. Arsenal were reportedly ready to spend £15m on the player in January, however Chelsea are now thought to be so keen that they are ready to offer the German side £25m for the player, a price which will see all other interested parties lose interest, although there are reports from Italy suggesting that Claudio Ranieri could fend off Chelsea's interest to land the player.

If you believe the Sun newspaper, then Dzeko may not be the only signing Chelsea are going to attempt to make from the Bundesliga as the Blues are also reported to be interested in acquiring Bayern Munich's talented midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger. This interest seems to follow on from the news that Bayern Munich's other talented midfielder, Franck Ribery, whom Chelsea were said to be interested in, has reportedly agreed a summer transfer to Real Madrid.

Peter Cech's form has been a worry and as a result there has been speculation that the Czech Republic international could be replaced. West Ham's Robert Green has been mooted in the press as a potential replacement for the Czech keeper should manager Ancelotti decide to bring in a replacement.

However the biggest transfer rumors this week concern Chelsea making a move for two Liverpool stars. With the Anfield club in seeming free-fall and beset by crippling financial worries, Ancelotti has reportedly made a tentative £30m offer for Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard and has earmarked a £60m move for striker Fernando Torres in the Summer, should Liverpool fail to secure a place in the Champions League for next season.

However one player linked with the club has distanced himself from a move. Luis Suarez, Ajax's Uruguayan winger, had been reported as having signed a pre-contract agreement with the club to move in January. But Suarez has moved to deny this during the week stating;

"Anyone can keep on talking about Barcelona, Manchester United or Chelsea but at the moment I have my mind focused on Ajax where I desire to stay at least until June.

"I want to stay at Ajax, so personally there isn't any offer for me from other teams."

Freezing Orders and Statutory Jurisdiction

The jurisdiction of the courts to grant freezing orders is to be found in s. 37(1) & (3) of the Supreme Court Act 1981. Section 37(1) states: "The High Court may by order (whether interlocutory or final) grant an injunction... in all cases in which it appears to the court to be just and convenient to do so."

Section 37(3) states:

"The power of the High Court under subsection (1) to grant an interlocutory injunction restraining a party to any proceedings from removing from the jurisdiction of the High Court, or otherwise dealing with, assets located within that jurisdiction shall be exercisable in cases where that party is, as well as in cases where he is not, domiciled, resident or present within that jurisdiction."

The need to have subsisting proceedings to which the freezing order could be ancillary, or an undertaking to commence such proceedings immediately, was re-iterated by the House of Lords in Fourie-v-Le Roux [http://hefinrees.wordpress.com/2010/04/20/freezing-injunctions-weapon-for-commercial-litigator#FOURIE_v_LEROUX]. In that case, the liquidator of two South African companies applied to the High Court in London without notice for a freezing order to be made against two individuals and a number of companies. At the without notice hearing the liquidator stated that he was "intending to proceed in South Africa in terms of statutory inquiries and... various claims would be formulated."

The High Court granted the application for a freezing order but this was overturned by the Court of Appeal which held that the court had no jurisdiction to grant a freezing order in circumstances where the applicant had no intention of issuing proceedings immediately or almost immediately. The House of Lords upheld the Court of Appeal decision. In the absence of the commencement of substantive proceedings, or an undertaking to do so, the court has no jurisdiction (unless the exception provided by s. 25 CJJA applies).

Barcelona - A Rich Football Club With Good Intentions

Barcelona is the capital of Catalonia - an autonomous community of Spain. Located on the Mediterranean Sea, it is the second largest Spanish city with a population of around 1.6million people. Barcelona is perhaps best known for its sporting links - in 1992 it held the Olympic Games and its main football side, FC Barcelona, is one of the biggest in the world.

Barcelona is one of only a dozen teams to have won the Champions League on more than one occasion - most recently in 2006 when they remained unbeaten throughout the entire tournament, a feat only matched by Manchester United in 2008. Their two victories are, however, overshadowed by rival Real Madrid's record of nine cup wins.

Their Spanish rivals also have the upper hand in Spanish Premier League La Liga titles - winning by 31 to 18 - but Barcelona have won the Spanish cup 24 times, which is more than any other side in the country.

Football is often criticised for the amount of money involved. Whether it's how much the club spends on transfer fees and player wages or the cost of tickets and merchandise to cover these outgoings, the general consensus is that it's too much.

During the 2006/07 season, Barcelona was listed as the third-richest club in world football but the club has dented the claim that all clubs are money-grabbing. Rather than have a company pay money to be their shirt sponsor - an easy way to generate income for the club and one that is undertaken by almost all professional sides these days - Barcelona announced in 2006 that the logo of children's charity UNICEF would appear on their strips. They agreed a five-year deal which would see the football club donate a small percentage of its income to a foundation set up in partnership with the charity.

This trend has now begun to spread to other clubs. Aston Villa announced that they would advertise Acorns Children's Hospice for the 2008/09 season - it is the first time a Premiership club has used a sponsor in this way.

Both clubs have received a lot of positive press following their decisions and many hope that others will follow in their footsteps and help those in society who most need it.

Despite the loss in revenue, both teams still have enough income to make big money signings to stay competitive in their respective leagues. Indeed, Barcelona remains one of the biggest clubs in the world and is constantly looking to challenge for the La Liga title and Champions League honours.

Recent stats show around 25% of Spain's population support the Catalan giants and millions more follow them around the world, often flying to the city and staying in hotels in Barcelona just to watch them play. It's a huge boost to local tourism and the more money that is spent on the club, the more that they donate to charity.

Cristiano Ronaldo is the Hottest Soccer Player in the Circuit

Cristiano Ronaldo, was born on 5 February 1985 in San Antonia, Madeira. He is a Portuguese soccer player who plays in the winger position and is known for his ability to score goals using both his right and left foot. Cristiano Ronaldo holds another distinction and that is of being the most expensive player in soccer history. He was transferred from Manchester United to Real Madrid for £80 million (US$132m/EUR94m).

Cristiano Ronaldo started playing soccer at the age of eight and started off with an amateur team called Andorinha. He signed up with a local club called Nacional in 1995 and went on to win the title. Following this, he joined a 3-day soccer trial with Sporting Clube de Portugal and was later signed on for an undisclosed sum. Cristiano Ronaldo went on to join other youth players of Sporting who he had trained with at the Alcochete at Sproting's football academy. Ronaldo achieved the distinction of being the only Sporting player to have played for the U-16, U-17, U-18, B-team, and first team of the club in the same season. He ended up scoring two goals on his debut with Sporting against Moreirense during the UEFA Under-17 Championships.

Cristiano Ronaldo was spotted at the age of 16 by Ex-Liverpool manager Gérard Houllier but at that time Liverpool declined because they felt he was too young. Later on in 2003, he caught the attention of Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson while playing for Sporting. Sporting defeated Manchester United 3-1 in Lisbon.

Cristiano Ronaldo became the first ever Portugese player in the Manchester United team. He was signed on after the 2002-03 season for £12.24 million and he scored his first goal as a United player against Portsmouth in November 2003. He was also responsible for scoring the 1000th premier league goal for Manchester United in October 2005 against Middlesbrough. In 2005, Ronaldo was voted as the FIFPro Special Young Player of the Year.

Cristiano Ronaldo earned his first Portugal team cap against Kazakhstan in August 2003 as they went on to win the match 1-0. He made it to the Euro 2004 in spite of their loss to Greece in the finals. Ronaldo was able to score only 2 goals in the Euro 2004 championship. The same year, he went on to represent Portugal in the 2004 Summer Olympics and was considered to be the second-highest scorer in the FIFA World Cup qualification stage of the European zone.

In the 2006-07 season, Ronaldo won consecutive "Barclays Player of the Month" award and thus became the third player in Premier League Championship history to have achieved it. In the UEFA Euro 2008 qualifying campaign, Cristiano Ronaldo scored eight goals for Portugal but finished the tournament with only one goal. In total, Ronaldo has appeared in 336 matches playing for Sporting CP, Manchester United, and Real Madrid and has scored 136 goals. He has also published an autobiography titled "Moments"

Soccer Juggling Skills

There are SOOO many good footballers out there, in the best clubs of today it doesn't really matter if your star is getting injured, there is always a replacement on the bench who doesn't want anything more then show that he's worthy a spot in the team. Every day that passes by there are new talents and new guys are achieving their dreams. In this football mania there is a little group of guys who posses insane juggling tricks, tricks that most people have not seen. My experience is that people who love football, they also love soccer juggling tricks. This kind of juggling is also known as "football freestyle"

The focus that is on soccer is so big that the freestylers doesn't get their proper attention, but all the time the freestylers are struggling to make the art more and more famous. What the best freestylers can do is pure madness, if you see one of the best you will really be impressed.

Some freestylers have reached some individual success but what they really want is to put the art of football freestyle in the spotlight. Make it recognized all over the world everywhere. I believe that freestyle will be big... with the right marketing and attention etc.

If you put a random guy against a soccer pro you will see that some people actually has a chance against them, but if you put a random guy against a freestyle pro, they will not have a chance. My point is, that what these guys can do is so unique and so amazing that they deserve more respect.

Hopefully football freestyle will grow with football, people will connect football freestyle and regular soccer in a way they don't do today. I also want to mention that freestyle and soccer is two completely different things. Just because you're a good freestyler it doesn't mean you can play soccer and vice versa!

Freezing Orders In Support of County Court Proceedings

Under the County Court Remedies Regulations 1991 a County Court has no jurisdiction to grant a Freezing Injunction. However, under Article 3 of the High Court and County Court Jurisdiction Order 1991, the High Court shall have jurisdiction to hear an application for an injunction made in the course of, or in anticipation of, proceedings in a County Court.

In Schmidt v Wong the Court of Appeal gave guidance on the procedure to follow in County Court proceedings where an application is sought to the High Court for a freezing order. However, in Schmidt Buxton LJ observed that caution should be exercised before seeking such an order in modest value claims.

FREEZING ORDERS AFTER JUDGMENT IN AID OF EXECUTION

Whilst the majority of freezing orders are obtained at a very early stage, the court continues to have jurisdiction to grant it at any point in time, even after judgment. This may be an important factor after judgment, as costs are likely to be a significant additional consideration. The jurisdiction to grant a freezing order extends to support costs orders, even when the costs order is subject to a detailed assessment.

THE ENGLISH COURT AS "INTERNATIONAL POLICEMAN"

Originally, a freezing order was only obtainable in support of litigation brought within England & Wales. These days, it is often obtained in support of foreign litigation, even in cases where the primary court where the litigation is proceeding would not have a similar power to grant a freezing order (e.g. Switzerland, USA etc.).

In 2002 Moor Bick J referred to the jurisdiction as enabling the English Court to act as an "international policeman". There has, however, been some recent change in the jurisprudence with the English Court showing greater signs of reluctance to interfere.

Approved Methods of Deciding Tied Soccer Matches - Extra Time

Extra time (ET) is one of three IFAB-approved methods of deciding a tied soccer match. It is only required if teams cannot be separated on aggregate, away goals (if applicable) or at the end of regulation time in a one-off knockout game. Away goals, extra time and kicks from the penalty mark can all be employed under competition rules, but extra time is not mandatory, since matches can be decided by kicks from the penalty mark, without resorting to it.

Extra time consists of two equal periods of 15 minutes each, played at the end of regulation time. Team captains have to retake the toss to determine which side will be on the kickoff and which goal they would attack. In that sense, ET is like a mini-game, where teams switch at the end of the first period. Teams can score any number of goals in these two extra periods. The winner would be the team that scores more goals in the two extra periods.

If teams are tied at the end of extra time, then kicks from the penalty mark are usually employed. However, if both teams score the same number of goals, the away team can be the winner - if away goals are in force. The referee can also use added time at the end of each 15-minute period for substitutions, injuries, time wasting or any other reason for stoppages during the period.

IFAB-sanctioned ET operates in the aforementioned manner. Prior to this, it took the form of sudden death extra time (golden goal) or the "silver goal", where only one period would be required if one team scores more goals than the other does in the first period. However, the golden goal is no longer a sanctioned method, since it was felt that it was unfair to the team conceding the goal and did not encourage open, attacking play.

Sometimes, extra time works in conjunction with away goals. In such situations, the team that is playing away actually has an advantage, since any goals they score in these periods would be considered away goals still and count double if both teams end tied at the end of ET, despite scoring. While this might appear to favour the away team, the home side has the added advantage of playing an extra 30 minutes on their home ground. Extra time is usually used after away goals and before kicks from the penalty mark if all three methods are in force. However, away goals can also be used as a tiebreaker at the end of ET (where applicable) and it might not necessarily be used at all as a method of deciding a match.
