Ain't It Funny How Time Slips Away

Porto and Monaco were surprise finalists of the champions' league in 2004. This is a brief spotlight on the both sides from just 4 years ago and how many players are still at the club.

Just 4 years down the line and the 2 sides are unrecognisable from the sides that took part in the final of the champions' league with just a handful of players remaining on both sides. This is part 1.

Porto

Starting XI

Vitor Baia was in goal but has now retired.

Jorge Costa left to play for a number of clubs including Charlton Athletic before retiring and trying his hands on management with SC Braga. He played at centre back.

Ricardo Cavalho is now at Chelsea and played at centre back.

Paolo Ferreira played at right back and is now at Chelsea.

Nuno Valente played at left back and is now at Everton.

Carlos Alberto played in midfield but is now at Sao Paolo having also played for Werder Bremen this season.

Costinha played in centre midfield but has been much travelled since then having played for Dynamo Moscow, Athletico Madrid and now Atalanta.

Maniche like Costinha played in centre midfield and also like Costinha has been much travelled as he has played for Dynamo Moscow, Chelsea, Athletico Madrid and Inter Milan.

Pedro Mendes played in centre midfield but is now at Portsmouth via Tottenham Hotspurs.

Derlei played as a lone striker but is now at Sporting Lisbon after having played for Dynamo Moscow and Benfica.

Manager

Jose Mourinho was the manager and he left to join Chelsea almost immediately after the final but is currently unemployed
