Equine Attractions in Ireland the Top 5 Must See Sites

1) The Galway Races - July 28th to August 3rd

This racing festival dates back from 1869 and involves major races over the course of a week with the highest prize over 200,000 euro's and is televised throughout the world. It has a reputation of being highly spirited just like the racers and the horses and attracts over 200,000 race enthusiasts every year. It is set during the last week of July at the Ballybrit Racecourse and is a real treat for all horse enthusiasts.

2) The Dublin Horse Show 2008 06-10th August

This is a huge exhibition set in the heart of Ireland's capital Dublin over the massive RDS complex. It is heavily based in the equine world but if you enjoy shopping there are many other things to spend on in the trade hall with over 300 stalls. The high light of the week in terms of racing is the awarding of the Aga Khan Challenge Trophy where eight countries have battled for the title.

3) Castle Leslie in County Monaghan

Castle Leslie is one of the last 30 Irish castles still run by the family who have owned it since 1660, they have welcomed many famous people from poets to politicians and boasts an incredibly luxurious accommodation. The Castle Leslie Equestrian Centre is surrounded by beautiful country and is the perfect place to enjoy horse riding and has recently opened the premium equestrian centre that caters for all abilities. Facilities include 300 new cross-country jumps throughout the 1,000 acres of private estate, 21 miles of bridleways to simply enjoy the surroundings and indoor facilities for those rainy days.

4) Goffs - Horse Sale Show

Goffs is based in Kill, County Kildare is the premiere bloodstock supplier in Ireland and every year there are specialist events held to sell quality horses to anyone who has the money to bid. The auctions are available on line also but to visit the auction means all the excitement of auctions as well as seeing some of the beautiful horses and meeting other horse enthusiast. This year Goffs Million sale held 29th September to 1st October features 657 top class yearlings and include eligibility to the Goffs Millions with the huge prize fund of 3,200,000 Euro's.

5) 27 Racecourse's Nation Wide

There are more race courses per head in Ireland than anywhere in the world so where ever your accommodation your will always be near a day at the races. The total number of visitors across the whole country is 1.4 million to the 27 different racecourses. The courses range from national hunt to flat or a combination of the two.
