Nikon D5000 DSLR - An Excellent Choice For Budding and Amateur Photographers

The Nikon D5000 is the latest "entry-level" DSLR from photography giant Nikon, typically known best for two things: Making incredible professional level cameras and lenses, and putting unusually high price tags on them. The D5000 comes as a refreshing surprise - a low priced full featured DSLR designed for budding and amateur photographers.

When one examines the Nikon D5000 it is quickly apparent that despite only a $600 price tag (body only) and the "entry level" labeling, this is an impressive camera. Packed full of advanced professional features, some very cutting edge, the only area where the camera is lacking is in its autofocus (ironic, as Nikon is generally accepted to be the leader in this facet of digital photography). There is no AF motor in the camera body, so one has to choose lenses that work explicitly with this model.

In addition to a full DSLR feature set for still photography, the D5000 also allows the photographer to shoot video in 780p HD, complete with sound and all. It may be a DSLR, but as an "entry level" camera Nikon had to build in the ability for even amateurs to operate it. They accomplish this by including 19 different pre-configured "scene modes", which can be selected by the photographer or automatically by the camera so that it shoots with the perfect settings for any of those situations.

Let's not leave out the fact that the Nikon D5000 is well equipped for fast action photographer, with a continuous shooting speed of 4 frames per second (up to 7 raw, 25 fine jpc, or 100 normal jpg). With that impressive speed you are sure to capture the shot you want. For low light, the D5000 is equipped with low noise, high ISO options so you can shoot without an obnoxious flash. On-camera retouching helps you simplify the workflow by correcting common problems with just a few buttons - such as red eye correction, perspective control, and image overlay, among others.

For such a low price, it's hard to say no to the Nikon D5000. Feature-rich and impressive in both look and performance, anyone shopping for an affordable DSLR should definitely give serious consideration to the Nikon D5000.
